Balaram Palace Resort, formerly the hunting retreat of Palanpur's Lohani Nawab, is now a boutique hotel. It was built between 1922 and 1936 by His Highness Zubd-ul-Mulk Dewan Mahakhan Nawab Sir Taley Muhammad Khan Lohani, the 29th ruler of Palanpur. It is a graceful example of neoclassical and baroque architecture. It borders Rajasthan and is located in the 542 square kilometres of Balaram Ambaji Reserve Forest at the tip of North Gujarat. The palace is set on 13 acres of terraced upland rising from a hilly stream, surrounded by lush green gardens and carefully designed flower beds.
