WMG Reader Queries: How Many Items Do I Really Need in My Trousseau?

Ankita asks " My mom insists I should take between 11-21 outfits for my trousseau. My point- these things become outdated quickly, and I don't really see the purpose in buying all these sarees. Do I really need them, and what alternatives can I take to the regular sarees and anarkalis"
WMG : "Hi Ankita ! 21 is a bit of a stretch and 11 (or even lesser) is totally fine. The more important thing as compared to the number of items is what you take. There are some girls who love wearing sarees, but for a lot of us , when our friends get married we are more comfortable in drapes, and pant-saris, dhoti silhouettes and more contemporary shapes. Its important to take things you will genuinely wear and be comfortable in because more and more, Indian wear is getting experimental. Here is what we think are must haves or your trousseau:

- One pant-sari (it's chic, it's modern and you don't need to drape it)
- 1-2 classic anarkalis in beautiful colors. Pick lighter outfits that can be dressed up, because heavier ones are hard to dress down
- 2-3 sarees (a chantilly lace one, a brightly colored fun one and maybe a handloom one)
- Indo western silhouettes - think cigarette pants worn with kurta and slits, or dhoti pants worn with crop tops.
