Wedding at Suryagarh Palace with meaningful details

When you have a venue as beautiful as the Suryagarh palace, there is little else you need to create a wedding you always wanted. But when you take it a step further to incorporate tiny meaningful details like these two did (read all about it in the text at the end), your wedding gives a new meaning to the word beautiful. Captured by Rishabh Agarwal  and planned to perfection by this couple who stayed miles away, this Jaisalmer wedding has kicked off the real wedding frenzy for the week.

Meet Jasmine and Mayank

Mayank and I are highschool sweethearts. We met at an Indian party after chatting on AIM.  I had been hearing about this guy from different friends and just had to know who he was! We were on opposite coasts (Washington DC and Los Angeles) for college but kept the love alive and finally got married after 11 years.  We loved that we got to grow up together first

Jasmin put a surprise element in Mayank’s sherwani which was the pic of their late maternal granny. She has been very important to them and they wanted her to be the part of their wedding in some way Don't miss the  photo of Jasmines grandad attached to her kalira so he could walk her down the aisle. From the bride:  Mayank  wanted to make my dream of a Rajasthani wedding come true (even though I had never even been to Rajasthan!) We spent endless hours online searching for venues and many emails and phone calls figuring out our vendors until we fixed Suryagarh Palace which is  a beautiful but new fort-style hotel created of sandstone to replicate the look of the actual Sonar-qila (golden fort of Jaisalmer).

With such a lovely venue, we kept decor limited and impactful. Our wedding colors were pink and orange and orange cloth decorated the whole property.    We used very few flowers since flowers in Rajasthan in August were pretty hard to figure out.    The only main thing about flowers was that I wanted the whole mandap area to smell like Jasmine flowers. And it actually did! I loved that the little detail worked out. The decorators did an amazing job bringing our vision to life.  We had been quoted exorbitant prices by all and took a chance on newcomers from a small town.  I honestly did not have high hopes of execution but despite a crazy windstorm while they were constructing the mandap structure, they did a very professional and beautiful job creating our draped mandap, at an affordable rate!  It was amazing to get married in Suryagarh's bawdi, which is a structure surrounded by water with moat, tiered seating all around.  My uncle also graciously printed elegant fans to keep our guests cool during the outdoor ceremony.  On one side, there was a description of the Hindu wedding rituals and on the other, the meaning of the Sikh traditions.  I was really thankful my dad came up with this little detail so many of the American guests could also follow along. One personal detail was that I really wanted my grandfathers, who have both passed away, to be part of the wedding. I did this by attaching photos of them onto my chuda (like kaliren that hang from the chuda) so that they could both "walk me down the aisle" to the mandap, along with my parents and brother.  I also put a photo of my husband's grandmother, who passed away just before the wedding, and pinned it on the inside of his Sherwani as a surprise. This way he could know that she was there with us as well and ever close to his heart.  It was a really special way to incorporate and honor their memories. I wanted to have a different look for each event, but still stay true to my overall design aesthetic which is mostly elegant and timeless with a touch of trendy. For the sangeet, I went with a Suneet Verma applique work hot and light pink lehenga I found on sale at his Crescent mall store.  I fell in love with how light it was to wear but how the gold and silver work really glimmered. I never thought I could or would go for a designer outfit but  it worked out that it was on sale. For the wedding, I knew I wanted to keep it traditional and wear red. But I wanted to break up the color. Royal blue is one of my favorites (also in my mehendi outfit). I was really glad I found this at Frontier in Karol Bagh.
