Using a wedding registry and actually "asking" for gifts? That's the exact thing some traditional Indian aunties would have scorned at. But come 2016, wedding registries are the best way to move forward because they let us actually “love" the gifts we get at weddings. So we found you a couple who used a Wedding Gift Registry in India , tried it out and have a tale to tell. So, yes, meet Ankit and Alison who used this very new, very exciting registry called ForMyShaadi and have shared all the deets behind the gorgeous gifts they recieved .
So tell us a bit about you two !
"We met in medical school four years ago and got married this June in Chicago . Since Ankit is from India, we wanted to plan a reception in Delhi shortly after our wedding so that we could meet family and friends here. With 200-300 invitations going out, we were worried about how we would manage the gifts that we would be receiving - cash is difficult to convert and take back and most gifts would be too bulky to fit in our luggage.
That’s when the team at For My Shaadi came to our rescue. We heard about the service and were delighted that we now had the option of a gift registry in India. We immediately created our wishlist, added gifts that we wanted – these were items that were not just practical and easy to carry back, butwere also things that would be useful to us as we start a life together. We sent out the details of our registry with the invitation cards itself. Our guests loved the idea, they viewed our registry online, bought us the items on the site and we are now overjoyed with the fact that we have a whole lot of really cool stuff to take back with us.
So, what was in your wishlist?
Home décor items from brands like Magppie (really chic steel cutlery) , Episode and Art D’Inox for starters. We also added some personal items from coveted brands like Truefitt & Hill, Ethos Watches and Pashma. Our favourite was the Nikon DSLR camera that we can’t wait to use on our honeymoon! The best part was that the portal even had a chip-in feature which gave our friends and family the option to pool in towards gifts as per their budgets! Instead of them giving us cash, they could actually see their money being put to good use by giving us items they know we would take back and cherish forever.
We received all the gifts together, beautifully packaged in their green and gold glory on our reception day! Thoroughly enjoyed every bit of this and recommend For My Shaadi to all the to-be-weds reading this"
