Yes, it might sound like too much, but a lot of brides these days are getting medical procedures done in the run up to the wedding which aren't as simple as a fancy facial or hair removal- these are procedures that are more complex- to either enhance a feature or look better! So some of the leading doctors and dermatologists tell us the new procedures that seem to be very popular with brides!

Dr Batul Patel, Medical Director & Dermatologist, The Bombay Skin Clinic says: 

Treatment: Jawline Definition & Neck Tightening

How it works: High intensity focussed ultrasound also known as HIFU delivers high intensity focused ultrasound energy reaching the three layers of the skin superficial and dermis along with the SMAS layer which results in tightening of the skin. This also helps in formation of new collagen which results in tightening of the skin. For reduction of double chin - Injection lipolysis helps to reduce the double chin appearance.

Ideal time: Jaw definition and skin tightening should be done at least 3 months in advance since HIFU treatments need 2 to 3 months for stimulation of collagen which leads to skin tightening.

Results: Double chin reduction through injection lipolysis shows results in a month. Brightening and hydrating medi-facials give instant glow to the neck and décolleté and can even be done just one day before the wedding.

How does it work: VASER is a 3rd generation ultrasonic device which is used to surgically remove fat. The ultrasound selectively dissolves the fat causing minimal trauma to the blood vessels and the nerves. Therefore its termed as surgical liposelection, not liposuction. This makes the fat removal precise and accurate without involving unnecessary blood loss and pain during the surgery.

Ideal time: Irrespective of the number of areas you want to address, its best to get the procedure done atleast 3-4 months prior to the big day. That allows better time for the appreciation of contours and subsequently fitting into the wedding dresses.

Breast enlargement is the most common procedure for breast correction, rarely any bride asks for breast reduction in case of abnormally enlarged breast.

How it works and Results: Silicone breast implants- Involves surgical placement of an implant behind each breast to increase its volume and enhance its shape. 

Fat graft mammoplasty- Fat injection procedure is known as autologous fat transplantation or microlipo injection. It involves extracting fat cells from the patient’s abdomen, thighs, buttocks or elsewhere and re-injecting them beneath the breast.

Breast Reduction- This procedure removes fat, glandular tissue and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter and firmer.

Ideal time: The bride should do 3-6 months prior the wedding.

Downtime: Recovery and results will take 3-4 weeks.

Price Range: The cost of the procedure depends upon the requirement of the patient in regards to the desired size and shape of the breast, but is usually an expensive procedure.

Treatment: Dimple Creation Surgery.

How does it work: A dimple is a small depression and is usually a natural indentation in the skin on any part of the human body. The muscles of the face are attached to the skin in such a way that when a person expresses themselves, the skin moves into a particular emoticon. When a person smiles, the shorter muscle on the face which is attached to the deepest part of the dimple pulls up the facial skin. This, in turn, creates a slight depression in the skin, which is called a dimple. The most aesthetic dimples are those which are not seen when not smiling and become very prominent on smiling.

Ideal time: Any surgery requires a healing time of about 3-4 weeks. Swelling on the face lasts for about a month. Since this surgery is done from the inside of the mouth there are no tell-tale signs except swelling on the outside of the mouth. Facial massages are not allowed for about 3 weeks after the surgery hence the best time to undertake this procedure is 2-3 months prior to the wedding.

Downtime: The result is visible immediately but it is exaggerated due to the swelling. For the first few weeks the dimple is seen at all times and smiling is painful. In about 2 weeks the swelling subsides and a more normal looking dimple which becomes prominent on animation is seen.

Price Range: The cost varies from center to center and practitioner to practitioner. Usually an animated dimple which looks closest to normal (not seen on rest but visible on smiling) costs as multiples of INR 25,000.
