Understated Elegance at this Punjabi Wedding

Every now and then a wedding comes along with just a trademark stamp of style in the most understated way. Needless to say, those are our favourite kind of weddings and Jai & April's wedding is no different. The brides blush pink outfit with pearl work, the pristine white decor at the Anand Karaj and that big nose ring really made it an understated affair filled with old-school glamour. Photography by Aviraj Saluja was a visual treat and every emotion was captured to perfection.

From The Bride:
Of course, there were many who said, this won't look like a wedding, it's white, there aren't enough flowers, where is the sofa you will sit on? I practised a lot of selective hearing and just went with my gut. The DJ was quite horrified when I said I didn't want any Bollywood music or flashing multicoloured lights, in fact, we had no coloured lights anywhere at all. Special thanks to my husband's brother Karan, who with his constant supervision, made sure everything was minimal and beautiful and exactly how I had envisioned it.
My closest friends and family flew in to join us and even friends from here just made such an effort to add as much as they could to the wedding to make those few days the most special I've had yet! My mehendi, in fact, was completely organized by two of my closest friends, everything from the champagne, the catering to the favours was all their doing and I didn't have to plan or do anything at all! I think this whole joint effort was the best present I could have received because it meant that I was blissfully ignorant of what was going on and completely stress-free as a result," explains April.
"As for my outfits, having worked closely with Indian wear for a larger part of my life (my mom and sister run a studio in Chandigarh), I have a deep admiration for traditional embroidery techniques. I'm not big on bright colours so I chose grey and wine for the sangeet and a blush/peach for the wedding day. My sangeet outfit may have been grey but we didn't skimp on the bling! I designed my wedding outfit myself and went with a silk organza that we dyed a shade between nude and peach. We kept the shirt plain on purpose, with small bunches of embroidery along the full sleeves and the dupatta which was a beautiful lightweight chiffon. It really is one of my favourite pieces of clothing - most people never wear their wedding clothes again but I plan on wearing it every opportunity I get, starting with my best friend's wedding this December! I wore my grandmother's jewellery for the ceremony" adds April.
