Lotuses, twirly ornate creepers, paisleys and the usual zardosi motifs, we have only one word for you - YAWN! As lehengas are getting more and more interesting and dupattas are becoming the next power outfits, we have blouses that are still following a traditional route. That is, until this year. This year, we almost sighed in relief when we saw some really cool western embroideries on blouses - think, bicycles, flamingoes and even tiny scooters. Quirky much? Take a look at our favourite picks.
What makes these quirky motifs work?
They are actually for the sister of the bride / the friend of the bride. It's because these guys can experiment with their look way more than the bride! They are for the young or the young at heart and give your outfit the much-needed punch. Looks like this trend was started by Masaba gupta, who's already known for her quirky ideas.
How does one wear these motifs?
There are a few interesting ways you can make these guys work.
- Pair them or contrast them with a traditional print / fabric. Example: This cutesy bicycle blouse with a Benarasi lehenga. Perfect combo!
- Wear them with a Kanjeevaram sari to balance the silk.
- Keep your sari or lehengas simple so the quirky motifs become the hero.
The best bit about these blouses is that, they even come in cheaper because you don't need a heavy sari or lehenga. Plus, you don't need borders and extra sari - it's just the motifs and you can go bigger and smaller as you like!
We love these motifs because they are so off-beat and interesting but you can experiment with others too. We remember seeing a blouse with stars, birdcages and even, one with an Effiel tower. Yep, we've seen it all.
