Before there was a camera, there was a painter. Yup, in the yesteryears, when photos couldn't be taken, there would be live painters at royal weddings to capture the essence of the event. These days, a lot of people are preferring to go old school with weddings, and a live painter is one of those things that seem to be coming back in trend. Of course these days, live painters aren't an alternate to wedding photography, but more to create a timeless keepsake for your new house which is going to be cherished forever. When we came across this idea at Asra and Salman's real wedding, we absolutely loved it!

Not only does it stand out as a timeless keepsake, but it's quite an entertaining activity for your guests in attendance too. The fact that it is a custom work of art created ON your wedding day as you exchanged your vows is something which is, and will always be cherished.

Whether it is for the first time you're hearing of such an idea, or know about this from before and are interested in hiring one for your wedding, here are some things to keep in mind:
- The cost of a live painter.
Depends on a lot of things- whether you're hiring someone known or someone who is a rookie, travel/ stay costs etc for a destination wedding.
- Number of pieces commissioned.
While the painter will be painting it live at your wedding, you could always ask them to recreate it if your parents want it as a keepsake too.
- There aren't too many live painters
Getting a live wedding painter might be a little tricky as it is still not so popular in India, although it is gaining popularity. But finding someone who's style you like might be a bit of a struggle.
- Pick a style you like
Whether you want it to be as realistic down to the details, or whether you want someone who nails the 'impressionism' (not as realistic, but capturing an impression of the atmosphere of the wedding), or something more abstract- there are the styles you would essentially want to pick from.
- Pick the moment you want
While some people want to capture the jaimala moment or the pheras, others would like the first dance or any other essential wedding moment captured. Keep in mind of what you want and relay it to the live painter.
