Till now, we were all about getting a cute design and making sure those sweet little envelopes reach your loved ones with a sweet gift or two. And yes, we did also discuss the coolest things you can include with your invite. But come 2016, we are entering a huge digital era - one where everything is personalised and extremely tech-savvy. And if you are one of those couples who have their to-do lists on an app ( the Wed Me Good app, we're hoping!) and are constantly on their Apple watch - then, really this trend is made for you. Video Invites, it seems are the newest things to hit our wedding world. They are exciting, innovative and above all, you'll be a step ahead of the pack.
Now, what's the fuss about a Video Invite?
It's not about a video invite that you guys just recorded and sent out on e-mail. We're not talking about that - but let's just say that's cool too. But this one is actually a more formal-ish kind of set-up. A recorded video goes into your invite - yes, the physical invite opens out to the new-age song and dance invite routine. A pre-recorded video with a specific message by the parents or the couple, sort of like a pre-wedding teaser or trailer.
You can easily send out these invites via whatsapp. Check out our guide to Whatsapp Wedding Invites for all the required information.
What kind of video invites can one indulge in? Or to be specific, what comes inside the card really?
There are apparently three kinds of videos everyone wants.
- A personalised video of the couple or parents inviting the guests with a cute message or a tiny video
- If people are shy about talking, then there s the option of an animated version of the invite. A flash video that tells the guest all about the wedding in an innovative way with pictures and things. Let's say, the destination wedding is in in Thailand - then, the flash video will have glimpses of Thailand with it's pristine beaches and fun things to do there along with the dates, location and time of every event.
- Another option is a simple slideshow of events - it's cost-effective, fun but lacks in adventure.
Where does one get to order a Video Invite?
Both Puneet Gupta Invitations and Ravish Kapoor offer these in New Delhi. But you can also order these from manufacturers in Hong Kong which is where they are actually made!
How long does it take to produce a Video Invite?
Compare it to a normal invite and add three months to it. Production, ideas, identifying the couples style, photo album, footage, software and final copies take more time so factor that in.
Coming to money's worth, how much does this invite cost?
The costs are usually about how much footage you need and the materials included. But ballpark says, it starts at Rs 2000 at least. It also depends on quality and quantity too.
