We are suckers for a fairytale love story, and when we came across this touching one, it was just so beautiful that we just had to feature it! This is the love story of a differently-abled bride and groom who were perhaps destined to be with each other. Coincidentally, they met with an accident at the very same place, but two years apart- and when they were introduced by a common friend, fell in love and how! After 7 long years of convincing their families, Anup and Nehal had the wedding of their dreams with some beautiful outfits and a whole lot of fun! The photos by 361 Degree Productions captured all the love and happiness!
Meet Anup and Nehal
Their love story initially appeared in the hugely popular Humans of Bombay, which was right after they got engaged, and touched a chord with so many people!
“We met at a medical convention around 9 years ago. It’s strange, but we went through very similar accidents — we both sustained injuries to the spinal chord in car accidents that took place on the same street in New Bombay and we were both in the exact same car…except our accidents took place 3 years apart! That’s how we became friends — initially we used to talk about our accidents and support each other but slowly, we started meeting for a movie, or coffee or with a group of friends. We didn’t even realise when we began to text all the time and have conversations that lasted until 4AM. We knew we had feelings for each other only when she took a 20 day trip abroad, and we were out of touch. She would still call me once a week but I missed talking to her everyday and when she came back she told me the same thing - we confessed our feelings & began to date. Of course, initially it was difficult because we both needed help — sometimes to use the restroom when we were eating at a restaurant or to get out of a cab but we got by! People have always been so kind to us — I still remember once when a restaurant owner asked these people who were halfway through their meal to shift as it would be more convenient to us and they didn’t even hesitate. So we’ve been dating for over 7 years now — but very early on I knew I wanted to marry her. She brings out the best in me and she’s so thoughtful that I wonder how I ever got so lucky — she’s saved every little memory of ours whether a movie ticket or our conversations from BBM to whatsapp and she just makes everything so special! I knew I wanted to marry her come what may but both are parents were very against it. They had questions like ‘how will both of you manage?’ ‘atleast one of you should be able’ but through time we’ve proved that we can more than manage. We’ve tried being independent and as for the rest, we'll figure when we live together. We've learnt to be around one another & support each other so much that we recently went to Goa alone and we had the best time & we're looking forward to that forever. We may be differently abled, but together we're so complete- together we're two parts of one whole."A post shared by Humans of Bombay (@officialhumansofbombay) on
From the Photographer:
"Love isn't something that you find, it finds you - on its own, in its own time. It may sound bit filmy but that is the reality of life. A love story is a tale of destiny - and that's exactly how it unfolded for Anup Chandran and Nehal Thakkar. Both of them belong to different states and subsequently two different cultures. Anup is from a South Indian family whereas Nehal belongs to an orthodox Gujrati family. Their path of love was never easy though. Anup met with an accident in 2003. Nehal too met with an accident at the same place but in 2005. This might be coincidence or fate - we'd never know.
They first met in a common friend's get-together and developed an instant connection with each other. That's how their journey began. They started talking on Orkut and then on Facebook. They both enjoyed playing Farmville where Anup used to cheat in order to win. They never knew how and when they fell in love with each other. It took seven years to convince their families. They never gave up on each other no matter how hard the situation was. Their love story is no less than a fairy tale so is their wedding. It is truly said that love is just a word until someone comes along and gives it meaning."
