This Bride DIY-ed Her Haldi & Mehndi Ceremony, And We Tell You How!

Sure, planning your wedding just how you imagined it to be is no easy feat. But some brides really have it in them, and make it seem like it was a cakewalk. Such was our real bride Srishti! Straight from sourcing elements for her Haldi & Mehndi decor to putting it up together, and simultaneously DIY-ing not just hers, but also the groom’s Mehndi outfit, this diva bride went beyond scope to amaze us with her wedding planning skills. And while we have already taken down all the notes, it’s time you take some too!

Haldi & Mehndi Decor

Since everyone was worried about the expenses on how and where we’ll do the Mehendi function, I and Mishtha (my sister) decided to go for the parking area. We wanted everything to be budget-friendly yet elegant, so that's when we decided to DIY the decor. We wanted to use the setup for both mehendi and haldi so we decided on a floral yellow theme, for which we bought stuff from Tilak Nagar market.

Stuff I purchased for the decor:

1. A yellow colored fabric (10 metres) 
2. A bunch of artificial flowers 
3. Some safety pins 
4. Staplers with staple pin
5. A decorative curtain
6. A rajasthani umbrella

(*Everything for the decor cost us around INR 6000) 

We re-used our sofa as the bridal seating and it all turned out so well. 

Bride's Mehndi Outfit

My Mehndi lehenga was inspired by the raging lime green lehenga from Sabyasachi’s Endless Summer Collection. I always wanted one but couldn’t afford it, hence I bought fabric in a similar colour. Also, I really love bandhani so I decided to add its touches to my mehndi attire with a dupatta.

Stuff I purchased for the outfit:

1. Lime green fabric for the blouse & lehenga (I got it from Lajpat Nagar Market for INR 2500 )
2. A Bandhani dupatta ( I couldn't find the same color dupatta I wanted, so I bought a saree from Sarojini nagar and turned it into a dupatta. The saree was for INR 650)
3. Laces for lehenga and dupatta ( I bought two different types of laces from Kinari Bazar, Chandni Chowk at INR 2500)

The lehenga was designed by me and tailored by my mom who runs her own label called Dresstination by Aastha.

My makeup for the Mehndi ceremony was done by my sister Mishtha Kanojia, who is also a makeup artist by profession. 

For the jewellery, I picked a stunning enameled choker set & a floral bracelet from Lajpat Nagar which cost me INR 6000 and INR 1200 respectively.

The Groom's Mehndi Attire

In order to go in contrast with my mehndi attire, I wanted my fiance to wear something simple yet colorful for the ceremony. So, we decided on a vibrant printed kurta with white pyjamas for him. I again bought two different fabrics for the kurta and the pajama from Lajpat Nagar (for INR 2000) and got it stitched from my Mom’s boutique.
