In an attempt to boost revenue, the Department of Monuments in India has decided to open the doors of the Taj Mahal to host wedding ceremonies come November, 2016. As of now, the front lawns of the Taj will be open for intimate ceremonies (allowing a maximum of 200 people), sit down dinners under the night sky, and Sangeet performances with music open till 11.00 pm. The marbled platform on which the Taj Mahal rests can also be utilised for Jaimalas and bridal entrances, as well as a stage for ring exchanges .
The areas that will be off-limits will be the central water body in front of the Taj Mahal, and all the indoor areas. So unfortunately, mehendi pool parties will not be possible ! Ceremonies with fire are also strictly forbidden to ensure no damage occurs to the property. To keep the sanctity of the monument, there will be a dress code that will require you to be dressed modestly if you are to host a wedding in the historic monument, however, full details are yet to come by.
