South-Indian silks are just the thing we needed to see to brighten up a dull Friday. So when we spotted this impeccable styled shoot by: Who Wore What When (run by two effervescent bloggers, Pranay Jaitly and Shounak Amonkar) we knew we had to share this. The duo really nailed the styling of this avant-garde South-Indian piece with their modern touch and a contemporary flow of ideas.
What we really loved about this editorial look is the way in which jewellery kept the style traditional yet modern. The high neck blouses and the unconventional colour pairings made this South Indian shoot look very edgy.
Disclaimer: Who knows, with Benarasi fabrics coming back, it's just the turn of Kanjeevarams and plush silks. And when that happens, we are prepared! Also, *hint hint * half-sleeve blouses seem to really up the ante this year.
And here are a few ideas in dressing up in Kanjeevarams that we gathered from this beauty of a shoot:
- Go crazy with your colour combos. Think a green blouse on an orange silk is out-of-place? When it comes to jewel-tones, there are no rules. So experiment, you'll be surprised how well these plush silks pair up
- Patola saris are coming back - wear them with a crop top or a fancy embroidered blouse to keep it mellow yet compelling
- Clashing prints are just the thing you need to try. Because plain blouses on printed saris are so passe. A Benarasi blouse on patola, an ikat silk crop top on a Kanjeevaram? Mix it up!
- Maatha Pattis and nose rings are back with a bang - wear them with aplomb. More is more!
- Small details matter: If you notice, in the last Patola sari sequence, the girls are wearing blue sindhoor. Now, wow...that seems like such a modern idea. Love it!
- Multi-layered anarkalis are coming back - courtesy, Bajirao Mastani. So guys, give that a try but top it off with a neat silk dupatta
- Half-sleeves and high-necks are a winning combo, right?
- And lastly, keep your bindis colourful and big - most underrated, but totally awesome!
