Make sure that the blouse is comfortable and sits well on your frame. In the process of getting something trendy, I went with a plunge neck blouse for my mehendi I was so uncomfortable at my last fitting that I had to get a new one made. If you have never worn halter necks, or plunge necks, don’t try it now honestly. Go for something that is slightly different but in your regular styling.

Pick your wedding jewellery before the blouse so you can know what neckline to opt for. If you are wearing a choker-style neckpiece you can go for a v-neck or even heart-shaped neck. If you are wearing something opulent and heavy, you can go for a light monotone blouse. Jewellery is more expensive, so pick that first and then pick your wedding blouse!

If you ask me the one thing, I recommend brides to about their blouses is to always get the one with cups. Also don’t forget to get the right cup sizes. Most tailors wing it, basis on what they think. Ask them and ensure it matches your regular bra cup. This is a god-sent tip!

Getting your lehenga custom-made? Then try the wedding blouse with the dupatta, always. If you don’t have a picture or haven’t seen the final piece in a store, it's easy to miss out that you have to pair the blouse with the dupatta. Before the final design is finished, try it on with a dupatta of your lehenga so you know the full look.

If your lehenga is heavy, opt for a semi-heavy or light blouse. Most stores allow you to mix and match, apart from top designer ones, so ask for that. This way you are not overburdened with weight on your shoulders and waist. Plus, it looks OTT in my opinion.

Go for a button blouse instead of a zipper one if you are wearing a saree on the wedding day. I wore lehengas for all pre-wedding events but the zipper is such a pain and always gets stuck at the last moment and there is panic. A front button blouse is easy to wear and remove and fits well too!
Taanya says
Get samples of work shown to you. A lot of designers throw around fancy words like ‘cutdana’, ‘pearl work’ and all to get the order in but the quality of the beads/raw material may not be what you think. So ask for samples of whatever work you are getting done before you place the order so you know the final result!

Think about your full look like your hair, makeup and jewellery before you get your wedding blouse. If you are getting detailing done on the back of your blouse, you should ideally be wearing a bun hairdo and not have a head dupatta as the detailing won’t be seen otherwise. If you plan a double dupatta or a veil-style dupatta, the sleeves are usually not in focus. If your hairdo is a braid then focusing on the front of the blouse makes more sense. So think about all the points before you get the blouse is what I would recommend.
