BY Apoorva | 01 May, 2023 | 1292 views | 4 min read

Congratulations! You have officially become a newlywed or are on your way to becoming one. Post your wedding, you will want to take a breather and soak up some much-needed downtime with your new better half. But hold up, don't believe everything you see in those mushy romantic movies - honeymoons can come with their fair share of stress too! But fear not lovebirds, we're here to help you dodge those honeymoon hurdles.

We asked our real brides on what they have to say about secret travel hacks that they would share with newlyweds and here’s what they dished!

Rhea says

Your honeymoon is one vacation in that you are going to spend quite some money as compared to other trips. Take advantage of that and Use travel credit cards or loyalty programs to earn points and save money on flights, hotels, and activities. You can get free airport lounge access, room upgrades and even free amenities in certain hotels, depending on your card tie-up!

Shaheen says

If you are looking to save money on your European honeymoon (trust me, you need to as the rates have soared like crazyyy!) then one hack I would recommend is Airbnb and buying your food while you travel. Most big cities have lovely cafes and bakeries where you can buy sandwiches and bagels with which you can easily have one meal. You can also choose to cook up a quick meal in your Airbnb. It might sound like a task on your honeymoon but you can stay for longer with the saved money!

Naina says

While we love to negotiate hotel rates, the secret is not to negotiate the price but to offer freebies. You are more likely to get free spa therapies than a 10% discount. So check the hotel website and see what you can negotiate for. For our Maldives honeymoon, we asked for 50% off on our scuba dive, complimentary wine bottles and even discounts on couple therapies at the spa!

Mahee says

Don’t say no to package deals. Package deals don’t mean that you have to travel in groups or via some tour company. You can be alone and get package deals for hotels, flights and even popular sightseeing options. We booked through a local tour company and saved a whopping 20% on our total costs.

Anandita says

Flight costs have zoomed so look for flights that allow you special deals on flights with only cabin baggage. Most AirAsia flights that go to Bali and other such South Asian countries, allow you a 10 kg cabin bag and rates are drastically cheaper than regular flights. Try to fit in all you can within your partner and your carry-ons if it’s a weeklong trip and it will save you tons of money. We did that for Bali – packed lightweight clothes like t-shirts, swimwear, shorts and slip on and we were set for our honeymoon!

Sharayu says

May not be a travel hack but certainly works for a honeymoon – do not travel immediately after your wedding. Keep at least two weeks between your last event and your honeymoon. You don’t want to just rest and recover because trust me you will need to do that after the wedding. So rest and recover at home and then jet set to your amazing honeymoon. Learn from our mistakes!

Palak says

If you are travelling abroad for the first time on your honeymoon, do not tell strangers this piece of information. A lot of times tourists get pickpocketed because they are unaware that popular places like Champs de Alyess in Paris or Trafalgar Square have pickpockets!
