Nothing like a Thailand destination wedding with an Anita Dongre bride to get this dreary week going. This beauty of a wedding from Thailand had us in raptures with it's interesting decor ideas and fun outfits - the bride sure knew how to get her trousseau in place with the choicest of outfits. While the venue, Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa kept it easy, breezy and fun - Photography & Videography by The Photo Diary by Monisha was breath-taking.
Meet Sonali & Karan
"We met 6 years ago through a friend. We’ve been dating for 5.5 years. I work with my dad in the family business and Karan sells supercars!
My family and a few friends helped Karan organize the proposal and I was absolutely clueless. My friend had asked me to join her for dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel which has been one my favorite go-to spots in Bangkok. Then she slipped to the “bathroom” while I was sipping on a glass of wine. Minutes later the waiter delivered 100 red roses to my table in a vase covered with pictures of Karan and I through the years! Karan also sent me a letter asking me to meet him in the garden and that was where he proposed!" says Sonali.

The Wedding
From The Bride:
Initially we were planning on having our wedding in Bali, as we wanted it to be a smaller and intimate wedding. However due to my grandparents being older, we choose something within Thailand. We agreed on Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa as we wanted a destination venue yet something close and convenient to travel from Bangkok. Also, we wanted to choose a hotel that had more experience with Indian Weddings and Sheraton Hua-Hin was definitely one of those!
The wedding planning process was a lot of fun! Both Karan and I wanted to wedding to reflect our personalities, which is more of the elegant, chic, and less-is-more vibe. For my Mehendi, we went with the yellow and white combination with Indian décor accents. While the welcome dinner was more a complete white theme with cabana style décor!
My wedding décor was on along the tones of peach, pink and gold, and I wanted to blend the modern western element of a walk down the aisle feeling with the traditional Indian mandap! The celebration dinner post the wedding had a more rustic and earthy vibe. We focused on ferry lights, through the roof, a circular bar in the middle, and a stage with a photo frame décor as a back drop! Post the celebration dinner, we had arranged a denim and disco after party! We figured this was a easy theme for a guests to get dressed in and it was awesome as everyone got in theme!
The next day was a ‘Brunch and Bubbly’ pool party that was colorful with printed floral cabanas, pink hats by the bar, and we even had our close family and friends all dressed in the same pineapple printed shirts! The theme of this party was the leafy, pineapple, flamingo, pink and mint green vibe! The last event was the Reception which we decided to go with darker tones such as emerald green and wanted it to feel like a enchanted garden. Our main aim was for each function to have a different vibe and feel, we wanted some to feel formal, others traditional, and of course the pool party to be complete fun and a chill vibe!
Both our families wanted the food to be one of the highlights of the wedding. Our caterers, wedding planners, and our families sat down several times to work on menus that would be innovative, yet comforting, while maintaining some of the go to favorites for everyone!
Makeup & Photography
My make-up artist Paveena Kh Rathour was warm, sweet and totally gets the vibe of the person she’s dressing. She let me stay true to myself and made me feel comfortable at all times!
I attended an engagement in Bombay done by The Photo Diary, the photographers so I chose them for mine. Their work is unique to me as they are both modern and traditional with their captures and choices of music etc. The team is also super warm easy to work with and it is obvious that they are all such creative people!
Wedding Planning
My wedding planner Mantra, was a very easy decision for me as Mantra has been in the business for a long time and they have a great diversity within the team which we loved! They have experience and creative young minds combined with one another which makes the process very interesting! It was great to work with them as they are all close family and friends to us and it genuinely felt like we had family handling and planning the wedding which is obviously very comforting.
Stationery and Invites
All our wedding stationary, engagement and wedding invitations was done from Rose Gold Design Studio and we were honestly so happy with their work! We simply had a few conversations about the style we wanted and from then on, they took over the whole process and gave us a bunch of options to choose from.
My advice of brides
Find a team that will have fun at your wedding! It flies by quickly. Enjoy your wedding by being there and not worrying about the small stuff. I think both Karan and I let go of the planning as soon as the functions started, and I would recommend that too to all couples!
