The Wedding
From The Bride:
"Since I am from North India and Shiv is from South India, we wanted our wedding to reflect both our cultures. Our Sangeet catering, décor, and set up was all done by Silk Restaurant & Banquet Services. From spending hours going through my Pinterest boards to coming up with his own ideas, they worked together to design the stage, colour schemes, and décor, along with the menu (which our guests still rave about!).
Our family and friends loved the floral backdrop made of strands of Marigold and Jasmine that added an Indian touch. As for Entertainment, my best friend Sheila kicked off our wedding functions by performing a dance medley to Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu songs sung live by Nirathi Rao Kalavapudi, founder of DC’s leading Indian Dance Troupe Rhythmaya. We had live food stations with a street-food theme and chefs made our favourite dishes such as Chaat, Pani Puri, Kabobs, and Jalebi (Indian dessert) live for our guests!" says Kamana.
"When picturing my wedding, I always knew I wanted an outdoor ceremony. We selected the Westfields Marriott for its beautiful terrace and colonial look and feel. Our wedding planner Sagina saved the day by making sure our wedding ceremony was still as beautiful as we envisioned after a bout of rain. A mint and gold coloured Mandap, full of lush flowers, and accented with hanging flower stands was always my dream. Preeti Verma, from L’Ambiance decor, helped make our vision a reality. Coral is my favourite colour and I love how the colour paired so well with our mint and gold decor and custom mint coloured saris for my bridesmaids. We added century old photos of our grandparents on their wedding day to our entrance and felt their blessings with us. We (ok mostly me) wanted everything in our wedding to be personalized. For instance, our entrance was fitted with a 24-foot wide screen that showcased photos from our wedding events. We also added our logo and hashtag #KandSKnotItUp to everything from welcome signs to sunglasses. When your best friend and Bridesmaid is the Managing Director of DC’s Leading Indian Dance School Rhythmaya, you know your wedding is going to have amazing performances. Sheila created a flashmob just for us and it was amazing to see our family members and friends join us on the dance floor! When planning our wedding, I loved the idea of hanging hollow photo frames. After pricing the frames with a few vendors, I decided to go the DIY route. I found frames from Home Goods, hollowed, sandpapered, and sprayed painted them myself. I added details such as flowers and ribbon to make the frames pop and our guests loved taking photos with our custom props! Shiv and I both love desserts and wanted our cake to be a highlight of our wedding. We designed a 5-tier cake with our baker, Fluffy Thoughts, and loved how the cake looked and tasted. You know your reception was amazing when your guests do not want to leave! We continued the celebrations into the night with champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and more dancing. We also held a Best-Day-Ever-After brunch for guests to say thank you to our loved ones," adds Kamana.
