A Sustainable Wedding From Mumbai With Eco-Friendly Measures

When Pratha & Sushant decided to get hitched, they knew one thing - they wanted their celebrations to be as eco-friendly as possible. So, they, with an amazing team of vendors, tried looking for alternatives of the most common plastic items used at every Indian wedding and ended up having a wedding that was as green as possible. Add to that the glam photography by Gaatha by Priyanshu Bhargava and this wedding was truly a celebration worth featuring!
Meet Pratha & Sushant
Pratha tells us how in the process of trying to find love for each other, they fell in love with each other, "We have known each other for about three years now, through our work and we started as friends, who became best of friends who often tried to play Cupid in each other’s life. We didn’t even realise when it all hit us and it looked like suddenly we were in love and then engaged in literally no time. Our relationship is like a love between Laughing Buddha and Kungfu Panda."
The Wedding
From The Bride:
The first thought which crossed our minds when we froze on the wedding dates was to ensure we were doing enough to restrict the usage of plastic and other unsustainable materials which are used so wildly in all Indian weddings, and give everyone a taste of an environmentally friendly wedding. This was our little way of making Humans and the environment comfortable. So the first thing we started was thinking of an alternative for every usage of plastic to something that can be reused. Our caters/decorators/designers were all briefed to avoid any usage plastic, and were asked to look for alternatives to avoid any carbon foot print while we have a wonderful wedding. Very often while we try to achieve the picture perfect wedding we forget how we harm the environment in the most silent ways. Whoever said that a big fat Indian wedding has to be a certain way would be in for a surprise at this wedding. Where little twerks were made to the usual cliches methods of carrying out a wedding, only to make sure that the wedding festivities emit the least amount of carbon footprint.
Vendor Reviews:
Nilofer did an exceptional job and in the least amount of time , she was grounded , down to earth and very loving while of course she did a fabulous job with make up and hair.
As Pratha, the bride, herself is a photographer, she was very picky about who she picked for photographing her wedding. Well, Team Gaatha won that jackpot and were the official photographers for the wedding. Team Gaatha was briefed to purely take candid shots and they did a good job. They were a warm team full of good vibes and positivity.
We wanted the decor to be as sustainable and environmental friendly as possible. Most of the decor for the pheras was done using reusable cloth fabric that looked like green while some of it was actual greenery that was re-used after the wedding for manure. Our brief to the decorator was to keep it as green as possible with pots, fabrics and other elements. For the Mehendi and Sangeet, we went as basic as possible with fairy lights and had small signs at each table that spoke about making a difference.
The mehendi was done by Naaz who drew the two most important things to me other than Sushant’s name on my hands. A travel globe and my dog's photo (who died two years ago).
We wanted our card to depict our personalities, so we had this really cool illustrator, Manasi Parikh sketch illustrations of us for our wedding cover. She thoroughly went through our history, our likes and dislikes and came up with a fun master piece. The few cards that were printed were printed by Anupam printers & they did a brilliant job syncing with the designer and giving a great output.
