Jaipur Wedding Inspired By India's Fashion Eras In A Gorgeous Palatial Setting

What struck us the most about this wedding was the attention to detail. Everything was well-thought of- this wedding was a celebration of love and heritage, intricately woven into every detail of each event. Inspired by the rich tapestry of Indian fashion, the bride envisioned the decor and outfits to reflect distinct eras, blending tradition with modernity. From a Boho Chic haldi to the Sanjay Leela Bhansali style Sangeet, there is so much inspiration in this palatial wedding. Not to forget, the bride wore the gorgeous lavender Sabyasachi lehenga we have been crushing on for a while, adding even more charm to this beautiful cross-culture union. Over to the bride as she tells us all about it!
Meet Anumita and Samuel
I am from San Francisco. We both met in D.C. where we used to work right after college!
Haldi
We kickstarted the wedding weekend with Haldi - an event where guests from both sides could mingle, socialize and just have a great time. As this was the first event of the weekend, we wanted to ease in all the guests from Sam’s side so we incorporated modern elements to bring that to life. Our theme for Haldi was “Boho Chic” with the color palette of peach, beige, white and blue. The vision behind this event was to incorporate some traditional and some modern elements which represented both Sam and I. As the event was an Indian ritual, we chose to bring modern elements to this event with the decor and color palette. We ditched shades of yellows and orange and decor elements like marigolds, sunflowers etc. To bring the theme to completeness, I wanted to wear an outfit which represented modern India and so I wore a beautiful peach co-ord with a jacket.
Sangeet
Our next event was Sangeet, which we were all very excited for! I wanted this night to represent “jashn” , “masti” and regality. This event was hosted in one of the 3 Baghs at the venue and it was just a perfect fit - the Maharani Bagh had a beautiful raised platform with gorgeous, large arches which in itself gave an effect of a stage. And so our theme for this event was “Royal Affair” with the color palette of royal colors - deep blues, reds, gold and magenta. For the decor, I wanted elements which would enhance the architecture of the venue and emulate the feeling of a Mehfil. For this event, I wore a beautiful midnight blue - rustic orange Sharara and paired it with jewelry influenced from the Mughal era - when I go over the pictures from that night, it feels like a beautiful scene from a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie.
Wedding
When it came to the wedding, I was clear in my mind that the two colors I wanted were lavender and powder blue. This is what drove my decision to wear a beautiful lilac colored lehenga and have the wedding party (groomsmen and bridesmaids) don powder blue saris and sherwanis, which complemented my and Sam’s look so beautifully. For the ceremony, I wanted the decor to be minimal to avoid taking away attention from the main event: wedding ceremony. I wanted florals and elements which would highlight the property and draw attention to the ceremony. To help our guests who weren’t familiar with the Indian ceremony, we got rituals printed on a card which was placed on everyone’s seat at the ceremony.
Reception
Our last and final event was Reception which embraced western rituals and customs - first dance, emotional speeches, beautiful mom-groom dance and father-daughter dance, and a crazy night after! The theme was “Glitz and Glam” and I wanted to wear an outfit which had been influenced by the 70-80s era. I wore a white saree to honor Sam’s christian side and we waltzed(!!!) the night away in the ballroom. I wanted all our events to be outdoors but unfortunately it had rained that night so we to moved everything indoors into the ballroom. Perhaps it was always meant to be an indoor event - because when I go over pictures from that night, the speeches, dances, our waltz, looked so much more magical in that beautiful ballroom than it would have outdoors. This way we also got to use the entire space the palace had to offer and got the true Reception feeling which Sam always wanted -intimate and personal.
About The Wedding
Our wedding took place on February 4, 2024. My vision for the wedding was highly influenced by the outfits I wanted to wear for each of the events. I wanted each outfit to represent a different era of Indian fashion - the type of outfit and the style of outfit, each drawing inspiration from various cultural periods.
About The WedMeGood App
Living abroad, it was hard to find vendors in India. I used the app get a general idea about the different vendors in Jaipur and found a few makeup artists to understand the process and system. I also used it to explore different venues in India for the wedding.
Vendor Reviews
Venue: The Raj Palace, Jaipur
This is a heritage property from the 18th century, originally built as the residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur, where their princess still lives! It was perfect for us because it ticked all the boxes - heritage, intimately-sized, personal and Sam loved it at first sight! As we had the entire property to ourselves, our 110 guests could enjoy the entire property as though it was a private residence, just celebrating our union and love. Would highly recommend if couples are looking for intimate celebrations.
Decor: The Stage Craft
As someone with a deep appreciation for floral arrangements, I can positively say our decor team did a fantastic job with florals for all our events. They understood my vision for the decor, balancing style and elements in a way that complemented, rather than overwhelmed, the venue's beauty. Their expertise accentuated the elegance of our spaces.
Photography: Parth Garg
I cant say this enough but I feel so lucky that I found Parth by chance on instagram. I really appreciate candid, delicate moments, and Parth did a fantastic job at capturing those throughout the wedding weekend. He and his team were so warm, supportive and had one goal - to make us feel comfortable, and let us have fun. I have gone over my wedding portfolio probably 40x now and each time I am amazed at the little details which he and his team were able to capture.
Makeup Artist: Bhavikaa Saluja
Bhavikaa and her team made me feel beautiful for my wedding weekend. She did a great job, delivering pretty and long-lasting looks. They skillfully enhanced each person's natural features, understanding and adapting to individual styles. Her team made the entire process smooth and enjoyable.
