Essentially it’s like a holi party where you get lathered with haldi and its one big pandemonium. It’s called gaye holud, maiyaan, dye, haldi, pitti — and the list goes on depending on where your roots lie. But the main worry is how to get rid of those yellow stains without losing the glow that it gives? We give you the lowdown!

Get it right with the application and half the war is won!
- Always apply a light coat of oil or a thick moisturizer before people start applying haldi onto you
- Haldi, in the earlier days was used as an antiseptic to wash off any bacteria. In today’s age you don’t need it. So put just a pinch of haldi to a bowl full of sandalwood powder and Ubtan and you are sorted. No stain yet the glow!
- Pick the right type of turmeric. The one that is in the kitchen isn’t the right one. Pick an organic variety that doesn’t have artificial colouring (which is the reason for the yellow stain). You can also use kasturi turmeric which is absolutely non-staining but it’s not inedible so be careful of that.
- Never mix it with water. Try raw honey or milk which will cancel out the staining.
- Always apply Vaseline all over your nails so that you can protect that perfect mani-pedi!
- Try your hair in a bun and you’ll thank us later while having a bath. If you want to leave them open, we suggest applying a little oil all over your hair.

- Apply some olive oil or coconut oil (warm it up a little) all over your body and massage the skin. Wash off with a cleanser. Repeat if required. Oil won’t make your skin dry and the massaging will retain the glow!
- Mix some lemon with sugar and scrub your skin with the solution. Since lemon-and-sugar also makes for a great exfoliator, this will leave your skin super-clean as well as glowing!
- Not comfortable with at-home remedies? Use a toner with alcohol or pure witch hazel. It will help exfoliate the stains away.
- If you want a natural toner, use apple cider vinegar and water as a toner. Mix equal parts of the two and store for use.
- Add rose water to your bath water when you are getting rid of your mehendi. This will wash away the stains but keep the glow intact.
- Make a mask of organic honey and lemon and apply this on your face after your bath. The lemon will take off any pending stains while the honey will keep your skin glowing
- Don’t moisturise your skin as soon as your step out of the shower. If there are any stains, they will get locked in.
- If you stain your nails, then mix baking soda and lemon juice and scrub your nails with the concoction. Not over your manicure though!
- This is only for server stains on body, not face. Apply shaving foam and lather it up. Wash it off after a few minutes. Shaving creams contain hydrogen peroxide that works as a bleaching agent which is not as strong as normal bleach so you should be okay.
- Use raw milk to get the stains off. It contains lactic acid that acts as a cleanser, as well as exfoliating the skin and removing the dead cells. Dip a cotton ball in milk and rub it on stained areas. This will also keep your skin glowing!
