For every daughter, her father is her first hero. He is the one who has seen it all - you playing bridal dress-up as a kid, as you took your first steps, you falling in love and now, you getting married. While he walks you down the most important aisle of your life, you look to him for all the support you can get. So as we celebrate Father’s Day today, we asked our real brides what was the best advice their dads gave them and this is what they said!

My dad told me to always stay financially independent the day I told him about my then-boyfriend and how I wished to marry him. He told me how finances should always be separate from emotions and relations, and how I should keep working and stay financially independent throughout.

You are flawed and there is nothing wrong or bad about it. Own up to it and keep it real. This is what my father told me on my wedding day. He is someone who looks at life in a practical way. He always felt that perfection was overrated. He thinks that people should accept themselves and their flaws and then life is a simple journey.

My baba told me to pick my wars well. He said that was the mantra to his life with my mom and it was a success so I followed his advice to the tee. I realised how easy the useless fights were to ignore once I knew that I would fight for something that actually mattered!

My dad usually never gives me advice because he thinks I don’t listen to him but on my engagement day he gave me the best advice ever – he told me don’t take life too seriously. Have fun, time will fly away. Any time I am down or feeling low I remember this and learn to move on.

We lost some family to Covid so my wedding was the first celebration post the pandemic and it was a very big event for my dad. The advice he gave me on my wedding day was that I always prioritize relationships and people over any materialistic happiness. He said that I will always get a chance to get whatever my heart desires even later but that is not how it works with relationships and people.

My dad and me are super close. The most amazing advice I got from him was to keep nodding to what people say and then do what you really want to do. This way you avoid conflict and the headaches that come with it and you get what you want. I so swear by this now and I will pass it on to my daughter someday!
So this Father's Day, hug your dad a little tighter than usual - because they are truly the best!
