The Engagement can be a fun function where you can have loads of fun and be more flexible in terms of doing things your way! Here are some do's and don'ts to keep in mind!
Do's
- Ensure hands look pretty! If your Engagement is after your Mehendi, then you'll have to make sure to get a gel manicure beforehand, scrub your hands and apply hand cream. So here's the deal: Pick Sally Hansen or OPI Nail polishes only - they reduce the chip-chip. Apply a good top coat like this Sally Hansen one so the polish stays in place. Hand cream options: The Body Shop Moringa Handcream or L'Occitane lavender ones. A friendly tip, use a face scrub to scrub your hands on the day and apply a little bit of highlighter or The Body Shop shimmer bronzer oil or the Nuxe shimmer oil on your arms and body.
- Pay attention to the stage decor. Bulk of your images will be shot there, so make sure it complements both your outfits as a backdrop. A guide on how to do that here.
- Ensure the song list for performances is on a cd and pen drive both - sometimes the pen drive malfunctions.
- Figure out your entry- engagements are usually hosted by the boys side , so you might be entering as a guest . So inform your song before hand
- Either carry an extra pair of heels for dancing, or just wear wedges throughout to be comfortable
- Get your ring platter before hand- its a tiny detail but in the end people forget to present the ring in a nice way. Some more ideas on how to present the ring here.
- Decide on your #hashtag now itself because you can continue with it throughout and maintain a record. Here are some ideas for that!
- Coordinate your outfits. A quick guide on how to go about doing that here.
- Personalise things. Maybe have food labelled with your favourite items
- Have a photobooth. It's the one event where people will go crazy and click photos- also make sure the photobooth is close to the dance floor
- If it's a night indoor function, do get the lighting approved by the photographer before-hand. Avoid lighting of mixed colours on the stage which could give an unwanted tint to the photos.
- Don't forget to take close-ups of your rings, your hands after the ring and the exact moment he proposes!
Don'ts
- Get a massive fondant cake : It goes to waste. Instead, get a small fondant cake with all the frills that you cut on stage, and get a simpler cake in the same flavour to serve.
- Not hire a photographer. A lot of couples think it's a smaller function, so it should be fine without one. You can probably skimp on a videographer if the function isn't too big, but trust us, you'll regret if you don't hire a photographer.
- Be afraid to take risks! It's one function where you can literally let your hair down, so do not be afraid to accessorise or try out something cool like a trending hairdo or outfit.
- Be sceptical about a day function. An engagement brunch is also a super cool and trending idea these days, especially for destination weddings! It can also seriously save you some big money! Like we said before, backyard engagements are big these days!
- Wear another cocktail ring that might overshadow your engagement ring!
- Forget to click individual photos of the ring, not just on your finger! Some ideas here!
- Get scared of brighter makeup. It has to be just a tad bit brighter than what you usually wear for it to pick well in photos, otherwise, it might look drab with all the lighting and HD cameras.
