It's not easy finding the perfect fuchsia lehenga for your Sikh wedding. And this super bride from Canada came all the way to Delhi to do her bridal shopping and finally found hers at Anita Dongre . From a pretty white and pastel backdrop at the wedding to those fun drapes at the Mehendi, this wedding blended bright colors super aesthetically . Photographer Zaheer Molu captured the photos and we absolutely love the getting ready shots.
Meet Sukhraaj & Harveer
"He always laughs when we get asked this question. We were both at Niagara Falls hanging out with our respective group of friends when our eyes met. While he did not approach me right away, later on that night, he came and sat next to me. We starting talking and clicked instantly. We both couldn't wait to see each other again after that night, and definitely felt something special.
Like every girl, I have envisioned my Prince Charming proposing to me in the most romantic way. Harveer decided to make the proposal a full day event. I attended my gym class when I was told by the front desk to proceed to the shake bar for a complimentary shake. The shake was given to me in a bag marked with my name. Inside was a flower accompanied by a note that told me to go home and change and make my way to a spa in Toronto. After relaxing at the spa with a massage, I was given my second bag with another rose and note. This note told me to make my way to a rooftop patio in the city where someone special was waiting for me. I was anticipating Harveer waiting for me but it was my sister instead. We shared some food and drinks as we discussed how my day was going, At this point, I knew the proposal was coming very soon. I received a third bag from the waitress and as I came out of the building, a stretch limo rolled up and driver opened the door. Inside, I would see yet another bag with a rose and note. I finally arrived at the final location which was a beautiful park in the city. Moments before, Harveer was lighting candles and spreading out rose petals in the shape of a heart. The proposal was exciting and beautiful," explains the bride!
The Mehendi
The Wedding
From The Bride:
"I had envisioned a fairytale wedding ever since I could remember. To get the ball rolling, I consulted a graphic designer to help create a wedding card that would truly stand out. The wedding card beautifully illustrated well thought out themes for each of her events leading up to the reception. The first event, the Mehendi, took place with our beautiful backyard of a large forest, serving as a backdrop for the “Enchanted Forest” theme. I sat on jhoola while getting my Mehendi done and enjoying beautiful Bollywood music with friends and family. The second event, the Sangeet, took place at a local park. The outdoor touch coupled with a horse and carriage entrance painted a truly magical picture. The Sangeet saw an explosion of colours and dancing that saw an escalating party atmosphere in anticipation of the weekend.
The final pre-event was the Maiyaan and Choora. The Maiyaan was a chance to laugh and let loose before tomorrow’s wedding ceremony. The event was capped off with a friendly water fight among the cousins and me. On the day of Canada’s 150th year anniversary, we were married at the Golden Triangle Sikh Association in Peterborough, Ontario. The snacks and lunch were served outdoor in a tent, on the beautiful sunny day. The ceremony itself was indoors with the floor layered in all white to help the glowing cherry blossoms truly stand out, adding a delicate touch. The event was capped off with treats for all the guests, courtesy of an ice cream truck playing its characteristic melody.
The week of festivities was down to the last day, the reception, which took place at Apollo Convention Centre. This night featured a “Twilight Romance” theme elegantly portrayed by the castle backdrop, featuring balconies with cascading greenery. I wore a beautiful flowy gown while guests entered the hall and were served cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, fresh sushi and enjoyed contemporary jazz music.
The party was kick started by the our entrance, followed by a truly memorable choreographed first dance. The second surprise saw beloved Disney characters accompany us with dhol players on stage" adds Sukhraaj.
