While most South Indian weddings have this rustic, picturesque quality to them, they are also pretty minimalistic. Cut to Manish and Kalai's wedding, we were surprised at how much fun these two packed into theirs. Right from the Moroccan-themed Mehendi and Sangeet to a beachy wedding with candy colored decor with just friends and family at Taj Connemara, Chennai , it really looks like they were having a blast. Add to that a kanjeevaram color which we really haven't seen before- a stunning minty jade green and you have yourselves a winner. Photographer ShotStories by Varun Suresh captured the happy elements and the candid love beautifully!
Meet Kalai & Manish
"We went to school together for 4th and 5th grade. In fact, we were in the same class. Start of 6th grade, Manish left the school as his family moved abroad. I changed schools too in Chennai right after he left. These two years, although we were very young, we were fond of each other. Years passed by, decades passed by before we met again, thanks to facebook. 17 years since we last met, Manish found me on FB thru a mutual friend and instantly pinged me. I always wondered, "where did this guy go off to or which part of the world is this guy living in". So, i was pleasantly surprised and very happy to see his message after all these years. We instantly connected. Chats turned into calls, calls into video chats and it just a matter of time before he made a trip to india to come see me. And rest is history :)" explains Kalai.
The Mehendi & Sangeet
The Wedding
From The Bride:
"Both of us fortunately had the same ideas when it came to the wedding. We specifically wanted a beach style wedding with just closest of relatives and friends. Once we were able to finalise on the beach resort for the wedding venue, we decided to have the sangeet in the same resort to make it more like a destination wedding. So our guests stayed in the resort from the evening of the Sangeet to the wedding morning for a couple of days. Since the wedding was going to happen outdoors on the beach, we decided more of an indoor setting for the Sangeet that was set in moroccan style with a few cabanas on the outside," explains Kalai.
"Our pictures by by Varun were very good. They looked natural, candid and reflected the mood of all the events and people. Rolls N Reels did an exceptional job capturing the engagement ceremony and the pre-wedding photoshoot.
Best of the best, I picked Rashida, my makeup artist after I received a ton of compliments for my make up for the engagement ceremony. Makeup was one thing I knew I didn’t want to worry about on the day of the wedding, and it came out wonderfully," adds Kalai.
