Bridal Beauty: The Best foundations for your makeup trousseau !

BY The WMG Bride | 21 Nov, 2014 | 15525 views | 5 min read

1-foundationsChances are, you never really gave foundation that much of a thought before you got hitched. All of a sudden however you realise- God damn , there are a gazillion smaller functions where everyone is going to be checking ME out and the regular CC Cream isn't going to cut it on camera either (unless you have naturally stunning skin in which case we hate you). So we put together a list of foundations on the basis of: - How well they photograph : No white flashes and ghostly looking snaps please - How high a coverage they provide : They need to cover blemishes - How long lasting they are : 6 hours at the minimum Note: These may not be  'bridal day' foundations. These are foundations that should go into your makeup kit for occasion wear.   > Bobbi Brown Even Complexion Complexion  | Price: 3200 INR Pros:
  • Settles into skin after 15 minutes to give a very natural, effortless look
  • Good coverage
  • Long Lasting
  • Finish is a soft matte: Gets dewy in the right place
  • Photographs well
  • Has a huge range of shades so there is something for everyone
Cons:
  • You would need a moisturizer underneath if you have dry skin. Can tend to exaggerate dry flaky areas.
Verdict: Good , Solid buy for almost all skin types. Coverage can be high or medium and as long as you moisturize underneath it should not give you problems.
  > Makeup Forever HD Foundation Pros:
  • Flawless , finish  without looking cakey or unnatural
  • Very good solid coverage
  • Long Lasting
  • Finish is matte.
  • Photographs well
Cons:
  • Needs to be blended  fast and very well as it dries up very quickly, Cannot be blended with fingers
Verdict: Best suited for people who are used to working with foundations. Newbies might find it hard to use.
>Revlon Colorstay Foundation  | Price: 800 INR Pros:
  • Medium coverage that can be built up
  • Long Lasting
  • Comes in two variants- one for oily , one for normal skin
  • Photographs well
Cons:
  • Doesnt come in a pump dispenser - has a regular bottle which causes wastage and mess
  • Not great for sensitive skin- has been known to cause breakouts
Verdict: If you are on a budget and want a drugstore foundation, this is a good one as it has something for different skintypes
>Chanel Vitalumiere Foundation | Price: 5500 INR Pros:
  • Beautiful fresh, dewy finish with medium coverage
  • Hydrates and feels comfortable on the skin
  • Long Lasting
  • Photographs very well
Cons:
  • Not the best to use in summer months for oily skin, has been known to cause a shiny effect specially in T zone.
Verdict: Stunning  winter foundation, and probably best for normal- dry skin.
>Mac Face and Body Foundation | Price: 1600 INR Pros
  • Extremely  dewy, beautiful finish which glows and has light to medium coverage
  • Very hydrating
  • Photographs very well
  • Super natural looking finish
Cons:
  • Too hydrating for oily skin tones, and does move around a fair bit if not set with powder afterwards
Verdict: Best left for normal to dry skin as its very hydrating with a dewy finish, and you must set it with powder if you want it to stay in place. Has a tendency to slide off.
>Loreal Magic Nude Liquid Foundation | Price: 899 INR Pros:
  • Feels very light while giving a beautiful natural looking light to medium coverage
  • Great staying power
  • Matte finish
  • Affordable
  • Great for normal to oily skin
Cons:
  • Doesnt come  in pump dispenser
  • Will probably not work for dry skin as it has a very matte effect and has to blended quickly before it dries
  • Not
Verdict: For those of you who have oily skin and are on a budget, this is a great foundation to have.
  > Mac Studio Fix Foundation Review | Price: 2000 INR Pros:
  • Very heavy coverage
  • Photographs very well
  • Lasts super long
  • Great for controlling oil on oily skin
Cons:
  • If not blended well, it can end up looking slightly cakey specially on dry skin
  • Very heavy foundation so can break out those with sensitive skin
Verdict: If you have very problematic oily skin, the super heavy coverage as well as oil control this provides will be a relief. Otherwise may be too heavy for you

Things to keep in mind while buying your foundation

  • Make sure the foundation you buy doesnt contain a High SPF and does not contain titanium dioxide. (A high SPF/ Titanium dioxide can result in a ‘white cast’ on your face when you are photographed with flash. You know those ghost like pictures of yours clicked at night? Its the SPF to blame !)
  • Always test out the foundation on your jawline not the back of your hand. I mean seriously, I haven’t met a single woman whose back of the hand matched their face so I have no idea why people do this
  • If you are warm toned (veins at the wrist are green) choose a foundation thats yellowy in color. If you are cool toned (veins at the wrist are blue go for a pink toned foundation. For reference- Kareena Kapoor kind of skin is cool toned, Anushka Sharma kind of skin is warm toned.
  • Some foundations oxidise on your skin and turn darker after half an hour of wear, please make sure you test out the foundation in the mall.
