Brazillian Waxing Before the Wedding: OMG, Things You Should Know!

BY The WMG Bride | 28 Feb, 2016 | 14703 views | 5 min read

Ummm.. Ok, so this is something that probably crosses every bride's mind before her wedding. Should you or shouldn't you go for a bikini or brazillian wax before the wedding? After all, you're anyway spending a lot of time getting groomed at the salon. Why not get some 'intimate' grooming done too? Some of you are probably in the habit of getting it done regularly, or have discussed this with friends or sisters who have, but we're sure a few of you might find it hard to open up about it to anyone. After all, this is an area of the body a lot of you wouldn't have given a thought about grooming till date, but now, you start considering it thinking about your first night, honeymoon and all the hot lingerie you've bought! Don't worry, WMG is here to answer all those doubts and queries. So let's break it down easily for you so you can decide for yourself whether you wanna go in for it or not! And yes, it's gonna hurt like hell, but women who get it done regularly vouch for it despite the pain! Most of them say it's worth it! Priyanka_Chopra-Dostanaavi0020 A lot of you might already be in the habit of trimming or shaving your intimate areas. Apart from that, here are your other options... Bikini waxing is more like getting the eyebrows done- giving the hair a trim and sort of shape and boundary so that it doesn't stray out of the bikini line. Brazillian waxing is more like getting your underarms done- which involves getting rid of all the hair that's visible on the outside! Hollywood-style waxing is like Brazillian waxing, but the hair is waxed off from the front till the back. French waxing is when only the frontal bikini area is waxed- not the back. Laser hair reduction is an option for those who are looking for advanced stuff, but we'll come to that, later! Since we're speaking about brazillian waxing here, let's quickly tell you the pros, cons and precautions to keep in mind. Sonam-Kapoor-Bikini-Blouse Pros of Brazillian Waxing
  • Gives you a clean and hygenic feeling. Something like that of a new born baby.
  • It obviously gives the area a smoother feel than shaving or trimming.
  • It can in most cases, waxing can get rid of or lighten the black or grey stubble in the intimate area, which means it starts looking better too!
  • Might enhance the pleasure for you and your man when it comes to certain 'acts' under the sheets.
  • Waxing is better than shaving the hair off. The hair takes longer to grow back so you have a relatively longer hair-free time.
  • For a while after the waxing, the hair might not be as thick and curly as before. The texture of the hair might become thinner and finer.
  • You just have to lie down and someone else takes care of it, you don't have to do a thing! Yes, we know trimming the hair down there also takes quite some time and effort!
Cons of Brazillian Waxing
  • We aren't gonna mince any words- it does hurt like crazy!
  • You have to shed your inhibitions when you get it done. Might be super awkward for the first time! Think of it like a gynac appointment!
  • The hair might take longer to grow back as compared to shaving, but after a while you'll still have that prickly hair that's growing straight and might be a bit uncomfy.
  • Like your arms and legs, you have to let the hair to grow out to a certain length (about 1/4th inch) before you can get it waxed again. Otherwise the strip just won't catch the hair.
  • There is a chance for infection in the hair follicles after waxing if the hair doesn't get pulled properly. Might lead to rashes or pus-filled boils or even ingrown hair.
  • There is also a chance of burns or scarring due to the hot wax if not done properly.
  • Brazillian waxing is not so cheap especially given the fact that you'll have to get it done at a good place. Will be a minimum of 1000 bucks anywhere, but going to  a credible place might just help.
Precautions for Brazillian Waxing b25853b62a3d8d8c942eec11567bd98c Before the procedure
  • Do not get it done for the first time right before your wedding. That's because the area is bound to get a bit swollen and tender after the first time. There might also be rashes if your skin is sensitive. If you can afford to, get it done three months before the wedding and you can get additional sessions later.
  • If you have an untouched bush down there, trim it a bit before heading to the salon.
  • Take a shower or wash your intimate area well before heading for the session. Will reduce chances of infection.
  • A lot of women say popping a pain-relieving pill about half an hour before the procedure makes the pain lesser.
  • Do not get it done during your period, right before it or a week after it because the area will still be sensitive.
  • Make sure there are no cuts or boils in the area before getting the waxing done.
  • Speaking to someone who has got it done can prep you better for it. That way you could even go to a trusted place. Or if there's no one to speak to, just ask the lady doing it if you have any doubts.
  • Glance around and refuse to get it done if the room appointed to you is unhygenic or you are uncomfortable about your privacy there.
  • Try to relax. A lot of time the pain becomes worse because of being self-conscious, scared or awkward. I've cranked up the music on my phone and just hoped that would soothe it.
After the procedure
  • Apply some aloe vera gel or soothing lotion like calamine to the area after the procedure to soothe down the area.
  • Avoid showering with extremely hot water in the area or swimming after your session for a few days.
  • Do not use soap, shower gel or any other thing that can aggravate the skin down there for atleast 24 hours after the procedure.
  • Wear thin cotton underwear which is breathable and does not rub against the skin.
