Beautiful Queer Wedding In Goa Full Of Love & Style!

BY Sakshi | 28 Dec, 2022 | 1740 views | 3 min read

If there is one thing that's common across all queer or LGBTQ+ weddings that we have featured so far, it is the sheer amount of love the photos ooze! Love is love, no matter which gender one belongs to, and here is an awe-inspiring union from Goa that proves just that. Partners Anuja and Rupa kickstarted a new chapter in their lives with a stunning, love-filled celebration, featuring diverse themes and decor. The wedding was planned by Palkan Badlani Weddings , and had fabulous décor by VLW Global by Shruty Tiwari★ 5 , who converted the couple's vision to reality. We loved everything about this wedding, right from the quirky, stylish outfits to the touching ceremony. Take a look.

Meet Anuja and Rupa

We had met each other at many different queer parties that Anuja used to organize back then. But, it was actually after a queer badminton match that she hosted, when we finally had the chance to talk. She made some pretty cheesy jokes to get my attention, which clearly worked. But that lead to a long conversation into the night and really got us interested in each other. I wouldn't say it was love at first sight, but we knew we wanted to pursue something more.

We've been fortunate enough to be surrounded by forward thinking, and compassionate people. We've never really had to struggle so to speak. While there have been nuances of people trying to set us within gender norms, these are only things that are obvious to us. Over all, all our friends and family have kept an open mind or been willing to partake in conversation in places where they didn't know how to navigate a same-sex relationship.

The Wedding

From The Couple:

It was important to both of us that we have a ceremony that was steeped in our individual cultures (Bengali and Gujrati). We started by deconstructing the vedic wedding ceremony and removing the parts like kanyadaan, Pheras, vidai etc. Then we looked at other rituals that are practiced and kept only those which had value and resonated with us such as the Ganesh puja, Nav graha Pooja, saptapadi and some others. What was most important is that we had a female priest who helped us deconstruct and reconstruct the whole ceremony. It was a beautiful evening where we were surrounded by our friends and family who traveled from different parts of the world to celebrate us.

Advice To Other Queer Couples

Tying the knot is a very subjective thing. For those who want to, our advice would be to curate a ceremony/ritual which resonates with both of the individual and resonate with your beliefs. And make sure to be present and cherish the moment, it is truly humbling.
