A Wedding Shot On An iPhone? This Photographer Really Took It To Another Level!

We met Sephi Bergerson at a recent wedding in Kerala. And he came across as a pretty laid-back guy with a simple heart whose wedding photography is all about using natural light and interesting new-age ideas. He even shot a cousin of mine in the backwaters of Kerala at 5 am. He will go the whole hog, try new ideas and keep things effortless - without disturbing the natural turn of events and all the bridal commitments.
Sephi has now clearly moved into a more modern space with his latest wedding completely shot on the iPhone. First, he wasn't too sure whether iPhone is up for that challenge - what with all the technological issues. But secondly, it was tough finding a couple who were a-okay with being shot that way. And that lucky lucky couple were Ayushi and Abhishek - just see the results, you'll know.
The wedding was in Udaipur at the end of November 2015 - and this is what Sephi had to say.
"Under the innocent cover of your iPhone lies a powerful tool that is changing the way we work and think as photographers. For the first time we have a camera, a darkroom and an online research directory in one small device. We can now shoot and process our images in the field, free from the burden of running home to our computers. We can instantly examine what works (and what doesn’t) to make our captures match our vision, as well as share them with our subject on the spot, or upload to the social media channels or your favourite online portfolio," he says in a blog post he wrote in 2011"
But it seems that this wedding was not a cake-walk - it was a huge challenge. While daytime pics were great, the night shots needed lots of work, and we're guessing lots of post-work and filters.
"The new iPhone 6s Plus camera is superb in terms of resolution and colour rendition, but low light photography was difficult, on the dance floor for example, as the ISO limit was not letting me shoot without having motion blur.I had a hand-held LED light to help me get proper exposure. This was not an issue when taking still images of decor at night. These pictures actually came out better than the ones shot on the DSLR. The built-in HDR in the new iPhone is nothing less than incredible," he adds.
But how did he really pull off the post processing?
He worked extensively on #snapseed with contrast, colour and highlights and added a vintage filter before moving to #mextures to add the scratches and grit. He would work with face retouching on #facetune and use filters on Instagram extensively.
And here is his army of photographers and helpers who made sure he got this wedding right. Beautiful ain't it?
