Now here is a bride who rocked not one, but two Sabyasachi outfits for her wedding functions, but both looks we've never seen on brides before! Yes, Vinaya stunned us with her bridal looks, which were simple yet stunning, and easy going enough for the bride to have fun at her own wedding! The Tamarind Tree was the perfect backdrop for their Bangalore wedding, which was planned by Aira Wedding Planners to perfection.
Meet Vinaya & Nicholas
Nick and I were introduced by a mutual friend. He took me to an Italian restaurant in New York City, and the dinner lasted till the restaurant closed! Needless to say, we were smitten from day 1. We dated for 5 years before he asked me to marry him in Central Park. It was magical, we celebrated all day with our friends. We now live and work in San Francisco.

The Wedding
The Reception
From the Bride:
We decided to have our wedding in my hometown - Bangalore. It was an opportunity to show our friends where I grew up, and most of them had never been to India. We had about a hundred people traveling from abroad - Nick's family from London and our friends from New York and all over the world! We wanted to show them how spectacular an Indian wedding is. Although not traditional to South India, we had everything from mehendi, sangeet, a baraat, a south indian wedding and a western reception. The wedding is an opportunity to truly make it your own and we emphasized both our traditions.
For the Mehendi, I wore a yellow lehenga by Anita Dongre (Kolkata), paired with jewellery by Anjali Jain. It was an easy and breezy outfit, it was fuss free and elegant. I did my own makeup and my best friend braided my hair.
As far as the Sangeet was concerned, I wore an Ivory lehenga by Sabyasachi (bought from Aashni & Co in London). This one-shoulder lehenga was so unique, I got the most complements on this one. The best thing about it is that you can wear the top on its own with trousers! I also wore a belt with the lehenga, this was such an interesting and unpredictable look! For the night, I changed into a super sparkly outfit that was easy to dance in by Sunaina Khera. My jewellery was from Outhouse.
For the Wedding ceremony, I wore a white & red benares silk saree by Vedam in Kolkata. My jewellery consisted of Family heirloom necklaces, and earrings from Vastraa jewellery. It was important for me to look like a traditional South Indian bride, so the braid was very important. I kept the rest of the look fairly simple. This is what I always imagined getting married in, and it was a dream come true.
And finally, for the Reception, I wore a red lehenga by Sabyasachi (from The Grand Trunk in California), which was paired with a necklace by Diamond Facets (Bangalore), and I did my own hair and makeup! For this event, I really just wanted to relax and let my hair down (literally). The color of my lehenga is so stunning and I just wanted that to shine. My necklace complimented my neckline beautifully and I didn't need anything else!
Nick wore Raghavendra Rathore for both Mehendi and Sangeet. They make bespoke outfits in every color under the sun, and his shoes were Paul Smith. For the Reception, Nick wore Sabyasachi and his shoes were from Gucci. The experience of buying a Sabyasachi outfit from their Kolkata flagship store is so special!
The Mehendi was at my parent's home in Bangalore and I designed my own invitations, since I'm a designer professionally!
Vendor Reviews
Venues
Sangeet & wedding ceremony was at The Tamarind Tree Bangalore
This is an absolutely stunning venue with big trees and lush greenery. From the time we first visited the venue, we had our hearts set on it. We had our guests stay in the venue for a night, their rooms are so special and rustic. Waking up to the nature in this property is a peaceful start to your wedding day.
Reception was at the Leela Palace Bangalore
The service at the Leela is exceptional. Our guests stayed here for about 1-2 weeks and the staff at the Leela helped them with everything they needed - ranging from giving restaurant recommendations, to helping friends with wearing their saris. Our reception was held at their grand ballroom, the food was absolutely incredible! We would highly recommend having your wedding at the Leela.
Wedding Planners
Aira Wedding Planners: Archana and Sarang are magicians! We started speaking over the phone 6 months before the wedding, I thought it would be a difficult task to plan a wedding from San Francisco. There was pressure on them to make this event a success since a lot of our guests were coming to India for the first time. We gave them our vision and they did the rest. Our wedding was so well organized and we were completely worry-free thanks to them!
Makeup Artist
Anurita Chandrappa: I’ve had an amazing time working with Anurita! Every bride wants to look and feel her best during her wedding day and Anu made sure of that for me. She’s super easy to work with, has a very friendly demeanor and is overall a genuine person. I cannot recommend her enough. Makeup can be tricky as it can make you look cake-y or look like a total stranger, but Anu got it right in her first trial. She has a calming presence which is much appreciated if you’re a nervous bride!
Photography
Shawn Menezes: Shawn and his team were a joy to work with. He came recommended from my best friend (and he's famous from shooting Deepika and Ranveer's wedding). He's incredible humble, friendly and an overall fun human being, always making sure we were smiling. I sent him a picture from a magazine that I wanted to recreate and he did such an incredible job - it was pure perfection!
Mehendi Artist
Mehendi Delight Studio by Sania: This process was so easy - i selected a few elements of different designs from their catalog and Sania did an excellent job! On the day of mehendi, I didn't expect that all of my guests will get henna (including the boys!!) but Sania and team handled the extra pressure very well!
