A Cross-Culture Home Wedding With A Bride Who Wore Pretty Mekhela Chadors

Woven together with an assembly of cross-cultural elements and old-world charm, Kriti & Kapil's wedding was all things earthy and minimalistic. It took place in the front yard of the bride's family home, and the simplicity it exuded throughout, instantly caught our attention. Kriti made for a beautiful bride and placed her bets on a dreamy line-up of mekhela chadors for her revelries. Kapil, on the other hand, looked all suave in his all-white avatar. Add to that, the exciting Bihu dance performances and the beauty of two cultures, and this wedding had to make it to our feature-worthy list! Wait no more and dive in to take a peek into their celebrations.

"Well, this 2 states (Punjab and Assam) story started when we met during our postgraduation days 7 years back", Kriti tells us.

The Reception
From the bride
Wedding was on April 16, 2021. We wanted a subtle, minimalist and earthy wedding. The venue was decided as the front yard of my family home in Assam. We had mainly 2 events Juroon on 15 th April (Groom family come to offer jewellery and clothes to the bride) followed by reception and wedding on 16 th April ( the wedding was a Hindu wedding with the groom and bride taking vows of “vivah-vidhi" following Vaishnav Guru Srimanta Shankaradeva. Exquisite Assam silk mekhela chadors in pastel hues (the traditional dress for females in Assam) and dhoti-kurta, Bihu dance evening, the ‘pani tula' event where the bride’s mom go with family relatives and neighbors to get water from a nearby pond to bathe the bride after Haldi etc were spectacular snippets from our pristine and minimalist wedding.

Juroon outfit- Traditional Assam silk chador mekhela in sea green colour from the designer house of "Shree"
Reception - Beautiful rustic pink Assam raw silk mekhela Chador from designer "Vijul Ethnic"
Wedding- Usually the Assamese bridal attire is silk mekhela chador in shades of white which gives Assamese wedding its unique hue !! Here my groom was punjabi and they wanted little modification in the hue of bridal attire!! So we placed an order of champagne pink mekhela chador with golden Guna/ zari work and designer Chandan Saikia has done a beautiful job.
