10 Brides (& A Groom) Who Rocked Heirloom Jewellery On Their Wedding!

BY Sakshi | 15 Jun, 2017 | 11797 views | 4 min read

Old is gold, but older gold is even more precious! There is something special about wearing something your mom, your grandma or mother-in-law had worn on her wedding too. We recently told you about some brides who wore their mum's bridal outfit for their wedding, and jewellery is something that's much easier to work around for your big day!

But before that, do you know what makes something heirloom? A family heirloom could be any treasured item which has been passed down by a family member and could be many generations old, or something new which will be passed on. Here are some WMG brides and a groom who truly rocked heirloom jewellery on their big day!

Real Bride Rhea tells us, "I paired my lehenga with my grandmother’s century old Kundan choker and custom chandbalis."

Real Bride Sanchita says, "On my wedding day, I decided to go for heriloom jewelry from head to toe as it was a precious moment for me. Hence, I wore my grandmother's and mother's jewelry."

Real Bride Meenakshi says, "My mum got married at her home and in a red banarasi sari. I wanted to do the same. So we had a really simple wedding on our terrace with just family (Punjabi khandan) and friends on the following day. I wore my maternal grandmom's heirloom hoops and kept the look simple."

Real Bride Chanu tells us, "Digvijay opted for a classic ivory benarasi sherwani accentuated with the groom’s precious family heirloom (a 22k gold medal presented to the groom’s great grandfather by King George Vth and Queen Mary of Great Britain at the famous Delhi Durbar of 1911 for excellence in sword fighting and sports)."

While Naaz designed her wedding jewellery herself (yup!), she wore a few stunning heirloom pieces during her wedding functions, which completely floored us! The jewellery on her Sangeet was her mother's and the feet jewellery at the wedding and the Mehendi are called patriyan - both are ancestral jewellery belonging to her father's great grandmother. Each piece weighed half a kg!
