Ask any millennial or Gen-Z about films that have helped leave a lasting impact on them, and we're sure they'll come up with one or two such names! A beautiful friendship culminating in a unique manner, which went on to stand the test of time, don't we all wish to have a bond like Naina and Aditi? From embracing one another's quirks and eccentricities to being there for each other, no matter what, we all need soul sisters like them.
Flash forward to years later when the boisterous, yet evolved, Aditi is all ready to say 'I do', Naina impeccably slips into the role of the perfect and dutiful bridesmaid. Another friendship that really touched our hearts is that of Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor) and Aditi (Kalki Koechlin). Cemented on a foundation of unconditional love and acceptance, we love how even after years away, the former is here to be a member of the #bridetribe on this very significant milestone in his bestie's life, thereby proving that some friendships are here to stay!

Well, well! This delightful watch definitely catapulted the trend of throwing regal and lavish weddings at exotic destinations. From over-the-top, opulent functions to that bustling fashionista chutzpah, and unbridled joy and exhilaration over three days of festivities filling the air with myriad emotions.
What's more, this movie surely put the royal city of Udaipur on the map, making it a go-to wedding destination. Set against the backdrop of Lake Pichola, the Oberoi Udailvilas, which is spread over 30 acres of luxuriant gardens, and characterized by an intricate layout of domes and corridors in vibrant hues has become a go-to destination for weddings, thanks to its rich, heritage splendor.

From enchanting and regaling us with soulful, and romantic music to making us want to break a leg and dance the night away with some foot-tapping numbers, this blockbuster has given us some melodious tunes that are loved even today. Enrapturing us in the different emotions and glorious mirth, if Kabira is your go-to Mehndi/ Haldi song, unfolding the journey of a young girl as a bride and then wife, then Badtameez Dil and Dilliwali Girlfriend are still revered for its catchy beat and enlivened spirits! Who's ready to party hard, and right?
Opposites Attract

While she is wild, carefree, creative, and unconventional, and he is awkward, reserved, and a tech-whiz, don't the characters of Aditi (Kalki Koechlin) and Taran (Kunal Roy Kapur) belong together like two peas in a pod? Yes, she was not your typical 'girl next door' while growing up, but personally, we loved Aditi for her candor and spirited personality. Unafraid to experiment, and try again, we all know her deep love for her best friend Avi- the predictable bad boy and hunk, who did not appreciate her in that regard. But moving on, she finds her soulmate in someone who's a far-fetched juxtapose from her, but she loves him with all her might.
As she rightly says, "Simple hain, kuch logon ke saath sirf waqt betaine si hi sab theek ho jati hain." Well, well! This quirky dulha is a must-have Green flag!
In hindsight, even the lead couple of the movie- Naina and Bunny are poles apart! But during different phases of their lives, as shown through this film, they totally complement one another.
Wedding Décor
Culminating a colorful array of festivities in all its shining glory, this movie surely presented a revolutionary breakthrough when it came to dishing out some major aesthetic inspiration. From the gorgeous, larger-than-life sets to the traditional knick-knacks, here are a few of our favorite décor items.
Customized Invites

Lending a personal touch, the invitation hampers, filled with a customized, rotating logo-clad wooden box, along with a few goodies, definitely set the ball rolling when it came to proclaiming and inviting your close ones to commemorate and be a part of this milestone! P.S. Taking us into the digital era, the video invite from the bride to her best friend is super cute, isn't it?
That 'Lit' Chaddhar

Just like our 'hatke' and firecracker of an unconventional bride, we too, became fans of this unique twist to the tradition of walking under a fairy-lit cloth aka, your quintessential 'phoolon ki chaddar'. Staying true to her character, she once again aced in breaking stereotypes and starting a trend.
Vibrant, OTT Hues

Playing with bright colors in costume and décor, the wedding sequence in the movie cleverly shows how to incorporate a mix of both, easy-going and lavish décor. While the traditional haldi complies mainly with shades of yellow, the long dinner table, or the champagne tower, and smartly choosing various venues during a destination wedding, it's all about setting the right atmosphere!

A glam queen in real vs. reel life, this uber-talented diva plays the role of the perfect bridesmaid and looked every bit graceful, alluring, yet sexy at her bestie's wedding. What's more, is there anyone else who exudes that authentic, charming 'business' like her?
Speaking of best friends, doesn't the wander-lusting, Bunny's silver kurta scream of that Sangeet suavity?
Bridal Fashion Goals

Personifying the notion of everyone being innately beautiful, Aditi is hands-down one of my favorite characters. Relating with her on a deeper level, this fearless, "jhalli, but khubsoorat" bride definitely wins our hearts with her trousseau choices as well. From the popular sequined LBD and the Blue and Pink mehendi attire to her equally stylish Sangeet attire and the deep-red Sabyasachi with a heavily embroidered bordered dupatta serving as her veil, her character manages to stay true to herself, and evolve with finesse. In other words, she is every modern bride- are we right or are we right?!
Old Meets New
Image via: Pinterest
Fusing age-old Indian traditions with various contemporary nuances seamlessly, isn't that what new-age Indian weddings are made of. Enveloped in an air of celebratory splendor and panache, everything about the second half of the film nonchalantly shows how weddings are now the go-to 'Instagrammable' affair. From the glitzy and customary ceremonies to the triumphant treats and hampers, our 'Great Indian Shaadis' has evolved and how!
It's Important to Love Yourself First
Image via: @thecinematicquotes
If there's one aspect that we adore about Bunny and Naina is that the former always encouraged the latter to start loving herself, and not give in to self-pity. As individuals, we're all beautiful in our own way! Living by that motto, don't we all love the refined, matured version of hers, alias, Naina 2.0, who's unabashed, yet classy?
In fact, even Aditi goes through her journey of self-discovery in love and life through which she finds her best friend in Naina (who's been there through all her phases); realizes that she deserves effort, appreciation, and respect from her partner (well, goodbye Avi), and finds that happiness with her eccentric, yet gold-hearted fiancé, Taran. As for Bunny, his free-spirited, hustling nature showcases this trait brilliantly.
The Underrated, yet Oh-So-Romantic Proposal
Video via: @deepikap_
Low-key, heartfelt and a total surprise! While we maybe a little diverted in our opinion about this ending, one thing is for sure- this proposal was quite endearing in its own way. While Ranbir's character, Bunny, opts for the mataphorical 'dal-chaawal', with Naina by his side to help him achieve his dreams, this togetherness is a win-win. Some cake, balloons, champagne, a ring (even though it was temporarily fake) and the willingness to sacrifice his own dreams for his lady-love seemed like a good start to seal the deal, isn't it?
Well, well! Reminiscing about this romanticized, slice of life watch, who's tempted to visually experience these love-glazed feels over the coming weekend?!
