European honeymoons are more than just Paris and macarons. It’s about medieval churches, cobble-stoned streets, and endless olive groves. In this journey, we found you 10 new secret honeymoon locations that the rest of the world is still finding out about!

Costa degli Dei, Italy

Known as Calabria’s “Coast of the Gods”, its panoramic views will take your breath away! Its spectacular beaches, shimmering coves and quaint little towns are the perfect honeymooners dream in Europe. Perched on a cliff with marvellous views of the sea below, Tropea is the unrivalled jewel of the coastline, though its surrounding towns are well worth a visit for some of Italy’s most beautiful secret bays, like the Paradiso del Sub beach at Zambrone.

Meteora, Greece

We love the blue-white pictures of Mykonos and Santorini but everyone you know goes there! On the other hand, Meteora, is one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece, second only to Mount Athos. The six monasteries are built on natural sandstone rock pillars, at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Pineios river and Pindus Mountains, in central Greece. So if you and your spouse are heritage junkies, this is your honeymoon destination!

Ticino, Switzerland

Look beyond the chocolate, cuckoo clocks and yodelling in Switzerland and you will find Ticino. The charm of Ticino, the Italian-speaking canton of southern Switzerland, is the not-quite-here, not-quite-there, lost-in-time feel of the place. Lugano, the largest town in the holiday region of Ticino, is a town of parks and flowers, villas and sacred buildings. With Mediterranean flair, Lugano offers all the advantages of a world-class city, combined with the cachet of a small town.

Civita di Bagnoregio, Italy

Civita di Bagnoregio is actually two remote towns. Civita is on a hill accessible only by a long stone walkway that begins at the end of the road from neighboring Bagnoregio. Civita is a charming medieval city, almost utterly untouched by the Renaissance. The facade of the church was remodeled during the Renaissance, but the city is otherwise entirely medieval. If you love the old world charm without all the touristy crowds, this is your place to be!

Malmö, Sweden

If the foodie in you comes calling, Malmö is where you ought to be! A port city with a multicultural, eco-friendly ethos and blossoming foodie scene, it’s a heaven for food lovers. Lately, rock star chefs from London and Copenhagen have packed up their knives and started a healthy competition of new restaurants here, thriving off abundant organic produce and all kinds of adventurous diners. A little birdy told us that the B.A.R. Krog & Vinbar is worth the dinner splurge, which features sustainable contemporary Nordic cuisine.

Bohinj, Slovenia

Located at the heart of the Julian Alps, Bohinj is an unique, charming, wonderfully mysterious region in Slovenia, the Alps and Europe. Bohinj encompasses the valley of Nomenj, the Upper and Lower Bohinj Valleys, Lake Basin, the Pokljuka and Jelovica plateaus and a high mountain range. The most recognisable and astonishing natural site is Lake Bohinj, the biggest lake in Slovenia. It’s a lovely place for honeymooners who love lakeside picnics and enjoy nature.

 Faial Azores, Portugal

Faial Island (the blue island) is part of the Azores central group. Different colours of blue decorate the houses, divide the fields and line the roadsides, giving Faial the name of Blue Island. The green circle of a volcanic cone at the top of a hill, there are white houses in all towns that are mirrored on the ocean. There are masts of sailing boats that you can take a ride in and the unforgettable sight of sunrise with the island of Pico in the background. If you are looking to honeymoon somewhere Instagrammable in Europe, this is it!

Kraków, Poland

If you are all about History and looking for some place budget, Krakow is your pick. It has a history that’s fascinating but dark, with buildings that were once Jewish ghettos and Nazi headquarters. Today in Kazimierz, the Jewish quarter, you’ll find upscale kosher restaurants, school groups in kippahs, hipster cocktail bars, and a lot of sick graffiti. Don’t forget to visit the Under the Eagle pharmacy across from Ghetto Heroes Square, where a pharmacist and his staff once risked their lives to secretly help Jews.

Menton, France

At the border of two sovereign states, Italy and Monaco, Menton is the most eastern French city of the Côte d'Azur. It is surrounded by a circle of high mountains and nestled in the heart of a bay; the city is open to the Mediterranean and backed by the foothills of the Alps. It’s one of the most attractive towns on the entire coast with its old town being a cascade of pastel-coloured buildings. If you love the high life, it’s a must do for honeymooners!

Montenegro, Kotor

Remember that amazing castle-hotel in Casino Royale where James Bond played that epic poker game? Remember what that place was called? Montengegro! Bursting at the seams with majestic mountains, breath-taking beaches and larger-than-life locals, minuscule Montenegro proves once and for all that good things do indeed come in small packages. So if you are looking for some adventure, fun, loads of food and an undiscovered land, Montenegro is the place to be!
