You want to remember your wedding as the best day ever—not the event that nearly cost you your friendships and family relationships…not to mention your sanity. Here are a few real life couples who tell us their own stress-stories!
Devika & Karan - Hairstylist Woes
"My hairstylist, Ritika, turned up like 1.5 hours late because of which we missed out on our sunset photo-shoot (we weren’t too happy about it). As if this wasn't enough, she told me the night before my wedding that she wouldn't come and I was given a replacement again. I was super stressed and in tears, just 6 hours before my wedding! And trust me replacements are never as good as the original" says Devika.
Moral of the story: Please have a backup!
Neha & Vishal - Lost Jewellery "I lost a solitaire earring during my ‘getting ready’ photo-shoot. I flipped! I didn't dare to tell my mom and secretly kept looking for it so did my friends. And luck being bad or actually good it was the pandit ji who found it near the mandap and handed it over to my mom," says Neha. "I was freaking out because it was a freaking diamond!" says Vishal. Moral of the story: Check all your jewellery from time to time and fit them in tightly.
Shivali & Harsh - Doing Everything On your Own "The pressure of doing things according to ‘rituals & customs’ got to us at the end. Managing a work life and planning a wedding is not an easy job. Shopping for relatives, visiting them exhausted us!" says Harsh. Moral of the story: Please rest and leave the planning at the very end to friends and planners. You cannot do everything by yourself!
Shruti & Hardik - One love, different plans "There's always a lot of stress planning your own wedding, as there's a lot of things you want your way. And that's when you are put to a test in your relationship with your partner and their family. The most stressful moment was to decide on what's to be done for the Sangeet as his different plans altogether!" says Shruti. Moral of the story: Decide everything before-hand and oh, leave room for negotiation and come two steps closer to each other's point of view!
Kaya & Paul - Wedding Outfit Woes "I think our most stressful moment was a huge difference of opinion on the wedding outfit! My mother-in-law wanted me to wear a kanjeevaram and I wanted to wear something I picked out. My fiancée was beech ka bakra! Finally I succumbed to her kanjeevaram but got to pull off a backless gown at the cocktail!" says Kavya. Moral of the story: You get your way, MIL wants her way. So don't protest too much, please her by wearing what she wants for a smaller function. In short, pick your battles! Siddharth & Rashi - Drunk Baraat "The baraat got too drunk and we missed the wedding muhurat! Need we say more?" says Siddharth. Moral of the story: Making everyone wait at the muhurat is a done thing but being considerate gets you better points.
Deepak and Vedika - Misplaced Ring "Not exactly wedding but just before I proposed, I had misplaced the ring. I couldn’t just find it. When I finally found it and proposed, she thought that I was nervous about the proposal, when in fact it was for the ring!" says Deepak. Moral of the story: Double-check!
Giselle and Akshay - Rituals and Trouble "The tale of The Uncles - So one uncle right at the end of the Hindu wedding on Akshay's side , announced it was time for an uncle from the Bride's side to give away my hand and give a speech along with it. By then Akshay and me stuffed on food and with muscle catches on our faces with all the smiling weren't thinking straight. Obviously there was no speech ready. And wait. Which uncle would it be from my side? The eldest? The closest ? The related or the balding fun neighbour uncle ? That right there was when we were stressed the most. And then an another uncle on Akshays side decided he would give away my hand. So here is an uncle standing on Akshays side, literally on his side, opposite me and giving my hand away! Complicated, confusing and super stressful. And that's what both our faces read!! But it was a sweetly worded speech and the couple lived happily ever after :)" says Giselle. Moral of the story: Might be the smallest things but account for everything beforehand.
Rekha and Kamlesh - Managing Vendors "Time management is a HUGE stress! Have to manage time with makeup artist, photographer, panditji and last but the imp people relatives. Piece of advice - just relax, don't panic at the end everything falls in place," says Rekha Moral of the story: Get a planner or make your BFF/Sister the planner! Because, why not!
Neil & Pooja - Cake Madness "Just before our cocktail party, our best friend told us that the patisserie had sent over the wrong cake. It was a 7 kg cake which couldn’t just be exchanged! I was literally going to cry, but Neil managed to make some calls and got delivered. But those 20 minutes were the excruciatingly stressful!" says Pooja. Moral of the story: Have a backup just in case!
