Horrible Experience - Recently, I attended a marriage at the so called resort named as Grand Opera, Meerut during January 2020. It is not a resort but a bloated marriage hall. It was a extremely painful experience. I was from the marriage party, which was from out-of-Meerut. The marriage functions were performed in night and baratis need to stay at or near the resort. The resort provided only 2 rooms for the barat. There is no hotel nearby. It is at an isolated place with nearest habitation is at least 1.5 km away on one side. When some members of barat asked the resort manager– where to stay, the manager of the so called resort replied curtly – we don’t know. You should have planned for that. Then the manager offered light bedding @ Rs. 60.00 per set of 7-8 cm mattress, pillow and blanket, in the common hall, which many barati took under duress. But it was not adequate in the bitter cold of about 6-9 degree Celsius. Further, someone stole the key of one of the two rooms, provided by the resort, may be under the deal. The key was left on the lock of the room. On asking for duplicate key, the manager curtly said – we do not maintain duplicate keys or any master key. This was at about 11:30 pm. The manager went home at 12 mid night with lot of food taken in his bag from the party. I am not sure, whether the food taken was his right or stolen or cut. Manager changed at 12 mid-night. The night manager, on asking for duplicate key had opened the door with master key and later given the original key also. Evaluate yourself. The staff is arrogant, greedy, slow and un-cooperative. They expect money for even rights of guests. The room, which I used had poor maintenance, poor house-keeping and poor hygiene. The plaster is peeling at various places. Some electric plugs do not work. One 15 amp power point has fire burn marks on it and was disformed. The bath-room is ill designed and the staff provides no toiletry, towel, napkin, toilet paper, etc. There are at least 15 non-compliance in bath room. On asking for cleaning room, the curt answer was – it will be done after you vacate the room. If you have a marriage plan at this resort and one party or both parties is from out-of-Meerut, it is advisable to not use this Grand Opera Resort. You will earn curse of baratis. There is no over-night stay at so-called resort or nearby. They have 8 rooms, but only 4 are given to both sides. I was told that other 4 rooms are not usable. If the marriage is in winter, do not use this so-called resort. It is open to sky and you will feel extreme chill, more colder than the city as it is an isolated area with no habitation nearby. The area is also said to be unsafe. It looks grand and decorated from outside but that grandness ends there itself. Minor scratching the surface will show the fissures. Beyond the grand façade that all other things are contemptible, worthless and shameful. All that shine is not gold. Food is not great but not bad also. Lot of upholstery exist in the lawns but during winter it is extremely chill and uncomfortable. Staff is totally guest-hostile, non-cooperative, greedy and arrogant.
