When I was a kid, wedding for me was all about stunning, elaborate outfits! But as I grew up I realised there's lot more to weddings! Hehe! However, the importance of wearing stunning outfits didn't diminish. But I did ensure, that when I got married, all my outfits would be offbeat, contemporary and extremely affordable.

Generally, brides-to-be go around shopping with half a dozen friends and relative for their valuable opinions and inputs and to have some help while making decisions. But, I have always been a 'lone shopper', and I maintained to be one, even during my wedding shopping. I felt it kept me off the pressure to visit a number of designers/ stores and go through countless trials before finalising my wedding wardrobe! And that's how I managed to buy my wedding outfits in under 2Lakhs! Since I did it all in just under 2 months, I believe it was a steal deal. Read on to know my idea behind each look!

Engagement

I always wanted something modern for my Engagement, and that too, in a refreshing color! I chose an intricately embroidered, mauve hued gown from Vaasas Studio, with pearl details and a unique neckline. This my 'love at first glance' moment! Went to this store to check out an outfit for mum and I ended up purchasing my engagement gown, without second thought. Minor alterations here and there and tadaa all set! For makeup, the artist suggested to go for bold eyes and subtle lips, with a natural glow effect over the face, while the hair was done in a half updo with flora foliage adornment! Lastly, I wore diamond earrings passed down from my mum.

Haldi

Going with the chilled mood of this function, I picked an elegant, bright yellow Bandhej saree from Rajasthali - Rajasthan Emporium and paired it with a stunning floral jewellery set in white, to match up the theme! No makeup at all, because I don't understand the concept of wearing makeup for Haldi ceremony. I did a messy low bun to avoid Haldi on my hair as this ceremony was followed by the mehendi.

Mehendi

This ought to be my favorite outfit from my wedding looks, considering how modern and unique it was! I opted for printed chanderi lehenga with metallic borders by Surendri by Yogesh Chaudhary! The detachable blouse bow and hand-printed details beautifully exuded traditional vibes. While it gave an illusion of being a heavy outfit, it was extremely lightweight and kept me comfortable throughout. The MUA completed the look with a braided hairstyle and makeup with brown hues!

Wedding

I always wanted to wear a Sabyasachi for my wedding, but unfortunately, my budget didn't allow me to go ahead with what I loved! *sob* Then began my search for a gorgeous wedding lehenga which isn't the mainstream red or maroon! I had two color options in my head - antique gold and salmon pink. Quick tip: Once you zero in on a color, it immediately eliminates the extra color options that you'd have to go through, and eventually saving a lot of time. A friend recommended me to visit Aditya and Mohit (A Unit Of Dalmia Fashions) , and that's where the search for my ideal wedding lehenga came to an end! I wore a flared salmon pink lehenga with heavy silver and gold embroidery, and an additional dupatta in dull gold. The ensemble looked magnificent, to say the least! Instead of going OTT with makeup, my artist suggested me to keep it natural, hence, muted bronze smokey eyes. And the pop of pink on the lips beautifully complemented carnations on the sleek low bun.

And this is how I managed to save a good amount of money on my wedding outfits! *pat on the back*   I know wedding shopping isn't easy, and most of the brides-to-be dread doing it alone, but I would suggest you to trust your instincts and go ahead with it. It really works!
