15+ Ways To Re-Wear Your Wedding Lehenga After Your Wedding
|

After Alia Bhatt recently re-wore her wedding saree at the National Awards, everyone is in a tizzy to re-use their wedding wardrobe. After all, if Alia can do it, why not us? It's actually funny how we justify the price of the wedding lehenga by saying or thinking "Yeah, but I can re-use this later also", but never get around to doing it! After the wedding, the once super precious lehenga lies forgotten, waiting for that 'one day' when it will be re-used. So, we decided to help you find new ways of wearing the same lehenga after your wedding day. It's sustainable, great for the environment and you can look stunning all over again!
Pick A New Dupatta In A Fresh Colour & Drape It Differently

If you did a front drape during your wedding, we recommend exchanging the old dupatta for a new one and draping it in a triangular fashion. Changing the colour and the drape will make a huge difference to the entire ensemble.
Turn It Into A Jumpsuit

Pick a seasoned tailor or a designer who can tunr your lehenga into a jumpsuit. You might need to add some matching fabric for the torso but it would be such a dreamy look!
Replace The Dupatta With A Jacket

Did you wear a double drape on your wedding day? Say goodbye to both the dupattas and get a short jacket stitched that can be worn with the choli.
Shorten The Lehenga And Wear It Like A Skirt

If you aren’t particularly sentimental about the lehenga, you can actually shorten it to a midi length and wear it. Its easier to wear, looks different and you did not drop a bomb to get a new outfit!
Long Kurta Magic

If you wore a long kurta style blouse on your wedding day, all you need to do is get matching pants or even some fun contrasting brocade pants stitched. You can pair your kurta-style blouse with these pants or palazzos for a brand-new look. If you wore a traditional blouse, then why not jazz things up with a fun kurta style blouse on your wedding lehenga. Keep it simple to ensure that the lehenga skirt is balanced with it!
Dye it

This one is drastic but all those ivory brides who wore light hued lehengas, check with your dye-master if the fabric can be dyed and you have a brand new lehenga. Fabrics like raw silk, chikankari can definitely be. Ensure you give it to a good dyeing place which will take care of your lehenga properly.
Wear the choli with a saree

Who says only the lehenga skirt needs to be reused? Use your lehenga blouse with a different saree to create a fresh look. If your blouse is heavy, opt for a lighter saree and vice versa. Make the blouse the star of the look!
Wear It Like A Co-ord Set

Give your lehenga a fusion look and pair it with a matching crop top and you have yourself a co-ord set. You can do a tie-up one or simply a bralette style crop top if you are feeling adventurous. The sky is the limit!
Make some tweaks

If you have a lehenga with a lot of flare, get rid of some of the excess volume- since you don't want to be competing with the bride! That will also make the lehenga lighter and easier to wear, plus will not give it such a bridal look. You can also get rid of some of the extra embellishments from a good tailor to make it more wearable.
Mix and match every element separately
Left: Original lehenga, Right: Lehenga worn with new dupatta and blouse
Heavy dupatta with a plain salwar kameez, the embellished skirt with a plain blouse and heavy blouse with a plain saree or raw silk skirt like a crop top and skirt- voila! You can have 4 different outfit options if you just mix and match from your lehenga set!
Style it differently

Who said you have to wear the entire lehenga set whenever you do? Style it with a leather or velvet jacket or wear the skirt with a long kurti- play around with options a bit, and you might come up with something you like!
Get a jacket blouse made

Get a long jacket with slits or a sheer jacket made, which looks trendy, and ends up hiding parts of the skirt, which helps in making it look more wearable. This is a good option if you have one of those lehengas with work that's really eye-catching and heavy. You could even go for a smart short jacket and carry it off without a dupatta which will look really modern!
Get a cape!

Ditch the blouse and dupatta that came with the lehenga and carry off the skirt with a ready-made golden or contrasting cape- it's in these days, and will not not look OTT.
Get a trendy blouse

So mostly bridal lehengas are pretty, but not so trendy in terms of silhouettes. So you can get a trendy plain blouse stitched and rock that lehenga skirt again- say with an off-shoulder or strappy blouse!
Transform it into an Anarkali

Yeah, we know, that's gonna hurt a bit. But think about it- an Anarkali always looks more wearable than a lehenga (even the heaviest ones!), and it's easier to carry as well- so how about you get the wedding lehenga and the blouse (you can pick a simpler one) attached together and transform it into a more wearable Anarkali?
Transform the dupatta into a saree

If you have a very pretty embellished dupatta with the lehenga, it isn't fair to just keep it lying around! You can get fabric stitched to it and make a glam half-half saree with plain fabric- keep the dupatta work so that it makes it to the front and pallu!
Wear it With A Shirt

Perfect way to balance out the bling - add a white shirt and wear it. We recommend a silk shirt to add that luxe feel!
Add creative elements

Turn up the volume on the embroideries - add pearls or pastel embroidery to pump up and make it look different. Add tassels or change up the latkans to give it a new twist!
Is that motivating enough for you?
