Vibrant, Sunny temple wedding in Mumbai
|
|
We have said it before. It's the effortless, casual elegance in Mumbai weddings which always gets us. This one for example takes place in Chinmaya Ashram Temple in Powai , and between the sunny yellow genda flowers spilling out of earthen pots, and the brides lightweight, brightly colored lehenga - this wedding is beautiful in its simplicity and restraint.
Meet Rashmi and Aditya
This was a classic case of meeting your significant other at a wedding. These two connected at a friend's wedding in Langkawi but the connection continued via Skype and Whatsapp as she was working in Hong Kong, and he in Mumbai. The long distance relationship was fraught with challenges but nothing they couldn't handle and eventually Rashmi moved to Mumbai !
How bright is her smile!!
From the bride: The wedding ceremony was held at the Chinmaya Ashram temple in Powai. I had attended a friend's wedding 13 years ago and somehow that memory had stayed with me. I did scout for other temples which could also provide accommodation for the family visiting from out of town but when I learned that I could book the temple, I had no doubt that this was where I would tie the knot! It's so peaceful, spiritual and set amidst lush green trees that one has to be reminded that they're still in Bombay.
We didn't want a formal reception with a stage et al. This was more like a boozy party. So the dinner and dancing (lots of it) took place at Tote on the Turf in Mahalaxmi. Tote is usually the preferred choice because you're assured of the ambience, the quality of food, drinks and the excellent service. This was a no-brainer.
To be honest, I was very clear that I want to buy clothes that are very ME! Fun, quirky and not necessarily traditional. Also, I have a lot of friends who are single and I actually bought clothes that I could repeat to their weddings. Haha. I wanted something comfortable and something that would suit my surroundings.
My traditional Kerala style white with the gold zari border was from Karalkada in Trivrandrum. For the reception party I wore a saree gown from Sonaakshi Raaj. I'm very petite and therefore didn't want something voluminous that would drown me. Also I think a saree gown is a genius idea, I mean just zip and button and you're ready to roll in a sexy and saucy saree!
