They are cute, they are green and they mimick what you say. This year, all the stars are aligning themselves to point towards a fairly traditional motif - the effervescent parrot. Somehow the good old parrot is now a symbol of contemporary India today and we saw some amazing ways in which they are featured that got us all excited. So here we go...
On Wedding Cards
The point is that parrots are beautiful-they come in their great colourful designs and add a lot of character of motifs. That's why the parrot as a symbol works very well for us - on invites and cards.
On Bridal Outfits
Instead of tarot or tea astrology, it's best to look back on our own culture and have a hawker at your Mehendi who lets the parrot pick a destiny card for you. You remember those? Haha! So, yeah get a parrot vendor and see your friends go gaga. Fun, fun!

Parrot motifs have been so popular with designers lately - Yogesh Chaudhary did an entire collection of shararas and lehengas with parrots as inspiration. So did Sabyasachi at one point and even Rahul Mishra. Raw Mango chanderi saris had their own charm with parrot motifs in gold. We love how these sweet parrots are used on jhuttis, as necklaces, on earrings and even as kaleere (custom made by Mrinalini Chandra). Potlis and clutches also boast of them to add quirk to one's look. We love jewellery on men also features this bird - 18th century artefacts had rings and kalgis that featured this bird (like the mockingbird pin that Petyr Baelish wears in GoT!) This one's super cute, all South Indian weddings feature parrots made out of palm leaves - they make for great mandap decor and amazing rustic backdrops. Paired with mogra, this one's really a charming decor motif! As Mehendi BackdropsPicture Courtesy: Rani Pink ; Nuptials by Priyanka Pandey - Decor
Whether it's a cut-out or a 3D backdrop - parrots seem to be the trend du jour at Mehendis only because they are cute and fun.

A parrot centrepiece made out of flowers is such a welcome addition at every wedding. It adds character and looks so so vintage! The more exotic the flowers, the better the centrepiece or sculpture! Plus, Real Parrot Astrology
