Corona Virus put the world to a halt but love always finds its way, don't you agree?  With the lockdown imposed all over, weddings were the most affected. A lot of couples postponed their wedding while the others, found interesting ways to get married even during the lockdown (with all the safety measures involved, of course!). From downsizing the guest-list to making DIY arrangements, we saw couples making sure that their intimate wedding also becomes a memorable affair.

When this couple sent us their pictures, we instantly fell in love and decided to share the story with you all. From having their wedding postponed indefinitely to hosting a lockdown wedding at the groom's house with merely 20 guests and all the decor elements, you can take notes on how to make your intimate wedding a fun event.

Meet Shreya & Akshay

The couple dated for almost a decade before they decided to tie the knot! From pursuing CA together to now walking the path of life with each other, they've indeed come a long way.

Their wedding was all things minimal, intimate, all most importantly SAFE. They prioritised their guests' health and took all the necessary precautions.

From The Bride

"We wanted to have the quintessential Big-fat Indian wedding. After dating for almost a decade - we want to enter the phase of marriage with a bang. From inviting 800 guests to The Lalit, to marrying in front of 20 close ones at Akshay's place, our wedding has been a roller-coaster ride!

With merely 7 days to plan a home-wedding, without any outfit, decorator, or even a varmala, we understood the meaning of 'necessity is the mother of invention'. I surely was disappointed at how this might not turn out to be the wedding I had imagined but to my surprise, it was better and definitely made me feel loved. Akshay's sisters took it on to themselves to ensure that the home-wedding misses no element at all."

What DIY Decor Elements Did The Wedding Have?

  • Garland With Artificial Flowers & Pearls - Thankfully Akshay's grandmother had both which were sewed together to make a varmala that went beautifully with their outfits

  • Mandap - All it took was 2 dupattas and the ideal lighting to make the most gorgeous mandap ever

  • Photo-booth - The photo booth was all about best out of waste! From scarves, artificial flowers, fairy lights to frames, they brought it all together for a minimal yet beautiful photo-booth

  • Baaraat Entry Car - Dulhe ki entry must indeed be memorable and they ensured to do so! The sisters made their brother's dream come true by making him enter in a DIY cardboard black Jaguar

  • Doli - They made sure Shreya entered in a memorable way, too. With a DIY doli, her bridal entry was all indeed unique!

  • Elephants - Flowers are what add upto every shaadi ka ghar and to make it look royal and grand, they made elephants out of flowers. Trust us, we couldn't take our eyes off these DIY elephants.

From The Groom

"While the big fat wedding was all planned, we never thought God would have other plans for us. Instead of having to indefinitely postpone our wedding, we decided to host an intimate function at my home with only 20 guests. Since we couldn't really invite the extended family, I decided to surprise Shreya with a virtual sangeet. It comprised of more than 25 family members and showcased our love story beautifully. It was all so last-minute but we made sure to put attention to every detail. Our original outfits are still stuck at the respective stores and we went ahead with whatever was available in our wardrobes instead. It was the same case with the decor, too. My sisters (who are luckily into events and operate by the name of @MaukePeTaufa) left no stone unturned to make our wedding so special."

Their Final Words

"Our families were a constant support and never made us feel that it was a small group. Everyone we wanted at the wedding were present virtually on Zoom and even dressed traditionally. At the end of the ceremony, we also did a little dance, along with all the Zoom participants. However, we can't wait to celebrate and get to the good kind of Corona soon!"
