Sameer Walzade from Sam & Ekta- Sonder Frames says, “Bombay simply works when it comes to couple shoots. Apart from the fact that the city has it's own character, it is also a city where people go about their usual routines even if we are doing a couple shoot around them. This goes a long way in making our couples feel at ease during the shoot.”
Aviraj Saluja from Aviraj Saluja Photography tells us, “There's no doubt that shooting in Mumbai city is a challenge. One way to embrace the vibe of the city and shoot on the streets, including the crowd, the traffic, and especially Mumbai's iconic black and yellow taxis or BEST buses. I also like to include some bits of the couple's story in the shoot. That helps make the photos all the more memorable.”
Kanishka from The Wedding Salad says, "Mumbai is an over crowded city with a handful of locations to do a shoot. Not many people are comfortable in posing for a picture in front of a crowd. But this kind of works both ways. This, in a way, brings out the best in people."
So here goes!
South Mumbai or 'Town'
This part of Mumbai stands out from the rest of the city. It has that old-world British charm thanks to the cobblestone paths and Victorian buildings, and is probably greener than the rest of the city put together! It has some iconic places and spots, which provide an amazing backdrop for a pre-wedding shoot. Here are some of our favourites!
-
Marine Drive
Day or night, it's pretty and iconic either way!
Kanishka from The Wedding Salad says, "One of the most iconic places in Mumbai to shoot at."
-
Fort/ Kala Ghoda
The roads and the buildings are something you do not come by in any other part of the city. Lends this vintage charm to photos!
Sameer Walzade from Sam & Ekta- Sonder Frames explains, “Some of our favourite locations in Mumbai are Fort, and Marine Drive. Places that have give the city it's inherent personality. Fort is especially flexible because you can just walk around for a few minutes and make amazing pictures that look like separate shoots!”
-
Asiatic Library
There is a good reason why this spot features in so many movies!
-
Gateway of India
There's an old fort-like structure and water... there's so much that can be done! Plus, you could even do a shoot on a ghoda-cart here!
-
Churchgate or VT station
Want an authentic Mumbai shoot a la Slumdog Millionaire? Then this is your spot! Plus, how pretty is the building to be a train station?
-
Ballard Estate
As Victorian as it gets this side of town! A lot of ads and films are shot here too! Make sure it's on a weekend as it hosts a lot of offices as well.
-
Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum
Another one with the old-world British charm. Has some stunning sculptures!
-
Bylanes of Byculla
It has 'Love Lane' after all!
-
Malabar Hill
While the Hanging Gardens here are super green, there's also Nepean Sea Road which has a stunning view!
-
Dadar Flower Market

Suburbs
-
Worli Sea-face & Link
While you can't shoot on the Sea-link, it does make for a stunning backdrop from the Worli Sea-face.
-
Lanes of Bandra
Bandra is also pretty popular, and a not-so-common venue for a pre-wedding photoshoot.
Aviraj Saluja from Aviraj Saluja Photography tells us, “My favourite spots are the lanes in Bandra West. They have a charm of their own and are a real pleasure to just walk through. Bandra is also popular with a lot of street artists so you can always find fun, colourful backdrops to shoot against!”
-
Bandra Bandstand
Another iconic spot in the city with the sea and the Mumbai skyline!
-
Bazaar Road
This one has a lot of spots with graphic art which make for interesting backdrops. Plus you also get to see murals of film stars!
-

If you want a quirky and kitsch photoshoot, then this is a pretty cool spot!
-

Another spot for a 'kitschy' photoshoot.
-

-
Sanjay Gandhi National Park
Where else can you find so much greenery in such a busy city? If you both are nature freaks, then this is as green as it gets in Mumbai!
-
Juhu
The beach, aeroplane park or the Juhu garden, there's a lot to do in this area which is studded with the stars!
-
Versova Fisherman's Village
For a rustic photoshoot.
-
Gilbert Hill, Andheri
Not like a typical hill, but iconic nevertheless!
Here are some other exciting things you can consider for a photoshoot in Mumbai!
For the adventurous couple
Renting a yatch is pretty easy, affordable and makes for a gorgeous photoshoot venue!
For the Bollywood buffs
From Film City to SRK's house Mannat and maybe even Maratha Mandir for the hardcore DDLJ fans... of course Bombay has a lot in store for Bollywood lovers! You can get as creative as you want with the shots!
And of course, there are always beaches!
Sameer Mangtani from The Wedding Pixels explains, “Beaches are the best place to shoot a pre-wedding anywhere in the world. However place shouldn't dominate your subject it should only compliment it. Pre-weddings should concentrate on couples more then places. In Mumbai we have couple of places like Silver beach or Gorai... I like shooting at Gorai because in comparison to city the sky there looks less polluted so the colours come out brilliantly and also its less crowded so you hardly have any disturbance.”
