When you think of a Malayalee wedding, one of the beautiful things that come to mind is the procession of girls in off white which creates a bridal entry. A staple in Malayalee weddings, thaals for bridal entries are as important as phoolon ki chaadar!

The bride is welcomed into the wedding venue, led by a group of girls which translates easily into the bridesquad now, dressed up in elegant outfits and having a “thaalam” in hand. They are also called the “thaalam girls” and they are an important part of the wedding.

We saw these gorgeous thaalams and some fantastic entries with thaalams that you surely can make it a part of your intimate wedding.

The big question. What is the thaalam? So, the thaalam is a plate that has flowers, a brass lamp, a fan made of ivory and gold cloth and in some communities even a small bowl of Adenanthera Pavonina seeds which is supposed to signify luck.

Look at this thaalam that has been customized based on what the girls are wearing. The fabric fan has colors from the outfits that adds to so much oomph. We love!!

You want to plan a simple thaalam based entry? Then best is use brass plates, add roses or jasmine too it and add a brass lamp. Looks fab, an absolute fail proof classic option. This is proof!!

You wanna go extravagant? This thaalam set up will not disappoint. It has a small lord Krishna figurine as well along with the traditional elements. The sheer number of thaalam girls who lead the bride are preceded by traditional musicians like the Nadaswaram. This makes for an excellent bridal entry.

The groom can also have a similar entry where the thaalam girls can lead the groomsmen if any followed by the groom. With intimate weddings ruling these kinda small touches adds in a great tangible element.
