Simple Iyer wedding in Delhi with a bit of sass

Kanjeevarams and lots of Madhurai malli - Puja Iyer's simple South-Indian wedding is a thing of beauty. Warm and  intimate, with a bit of sass thrown in with an off-shoulder mehendi outfit and kitsch decor  . The veshti (the south-indian dhoti) and the madisaar (the silk sari worn by brahmins in south-india) had their moment in the sun and we saw beautiful colours and happy faces. Captured by photographer Prerna Sodhi, this wedding is breezy and fun!

Meet Puja & Shiv

Puja recounts her  meeting with Shiv and all the nostalgia spills onto our pages. "I met my husband Shiv at my restaurant "The Potbelly" when he was in India 2 years ago. He happened to be there with some common friends. My friend did hint that I should get to know him but I told him upfront that I wasn’t interested.  We met again a year back and then I caught up with him when I was on a solo trip to the US. That’s when we fell in love... dated for a year and then got married on 13th of July".

The Mehendi

For my  mehendi there was profusion of colour. The look was mildly kitchy and there was marigold in abundance.

The Cocktails

"For the Cocktails, our venue was spacious, surrounded by an expanse of lush green lawns. So we decided that the interiors need to fuse beautifully with the surroundings. We used a lot of dry twigs, flowers, burlap drapes for diffuse lighting and had oak barrels for the bar etc. The look was rustic and gave us a feel of an English countryside."

The Wedding

"The wedding was fairly simple with the whole venue masked in lime-green khadi fabric. Since it was an Iyer wedding we had long community seating arrangements. The highlight was the chandelier in the mandap which was inverted umbrellas decorated with flowers. All this came together because of Hemant our Decorator. He is super creative and diligent. I am happy!"

From The bride: "I wanted an intimate and simple wedding.  I wanted to do everything aesthetically but keeping the budget in mind. At the same time I didn’t want to compromise on any front. Since I run two fairly successful restaurants , the food had to be top-notch and Amit Dua was an obvious choice. Apart from that, the only thing I really had a specific vision for was decor"
