There's a diet plan you must have in place already because 2016 is just around the corner. A good reason to start afresh right now if your wedding is in 2016. But first, we don't want to complicate things further - so we're sticking to the basics. Let's just start with things we can do, ones we can control and cravings we can tackle. So we give you a simple list of six things that will keep health on an even keel as you enter 2016 with renewed energy.

1. Alcohol

Once you get engaged, there’s never a lack of opportunity to celebrate. Still, as your wedding day approaches, swap booze for water, to avoid morning-after puffiness and slowing down your metabolism. You’ll feel livelier and more energetic, and ready to start the day instead of sitting on the couch. What to switch to: A bunch of drinks we put together that use all your favourite spirits in a healthy way. Less calorie drinks to enjoy!!!

2. Gum

Who would have guessed that freshening your breath can make you bloated? Turns out that many chewing gums use sugar alcohols in production. As with artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols cause bloating — not to mention that a single stick of gum can pack five calories and up to six grams of sugar. What to switch to: Fennel Seeds are the best option for those who need something to chew after every meal.

3. Packaged Food

Packaged foods are often full of sugar, salt and preservatives. While sodium makes the body retain water, potassium helps the body shed water. The best part? Your options are pretty delicious. Mango, avocado, papaya, kiwi, dandelion greens and bananas! What to switch to: Barilla Whole Wheat Pasta is known to be super healthy. Also try organic peanut butter with your toast instead of jams.

4. Coffee

That daily 4pm Starbucks run is not only messing with your sleep, it's also making you acidic, which can puff up your belly. Also it causes dehydration which can cause a havoc on your skin! If you can’t do away with it, restrict yourself to one cuppa a day! The more acidic your body becomes, the more amount of fat it hangs onto. What to switch to: Black coffee is supposed to better than the milk edition.

5. Granola

Processed-granola bars can contain as much sugar as a candy bar, (and without the energy boost you hoped for). It's surprising for something that is always seen as a health food! What to switch to: a homemade trail mix filled with protein-packed nuts and seeds to keep you feeling full.

6. Fast Food

While fast food may be a quick, convenient meal for a busy bride on-the-go, it's important to stay away from the drive-thru window and super-size menus. Cut fast food from your diet in the months before the wedding as much as possible, and eat healthy foods high in monounsaturated fats instead, like avocados, peanut butter and raw nuts. What to switch to: If you really really crave fast food than look for these: a salad, burger with veggies or grilled chicken. The best way to avoid all this is to have a full fridge of healthy options and eat regular meals. Don't let yourself get to the point of starving. When we are very hungry we reach for the easiest and fastest types of foods which are often full of sugar, fat, and calories! Eat a Power Combo. Protein, healthy carbs and fats should be the stars of every meal or snack you eat. This will balance your blood sugar and keep hunger cravings at bay! Contributed by: Apoorva Pagar
