Pool Party 101: How To Plan It And Make Your Wedding Week a Fun Affair!

Pool parties are amazing fun to be in. Pool + Party + Drinks + Fun = What's not to love? And slowly just as youngsters parties are finding new themes and ideas, pool parties are taking over our timelines as a better option than just a party in a hall. Plus, they happily stay as a chiller event tucked between a traditional mehendi ceremony and a formal evening Sangeet. But planning one is another wave of chaos in your wedding planning trail! But with our quick tips pool party planning is super-efficient and fun too, so dive in, ladies!
Decide a theme
It avoids a lot of hassles. Your décor, invite, dress-code, food can all be under that theme without any worries. Think tropical with floral crowns and Hawaiians shirts. Nautical is another theme we love. If you are having a night pool party – glow in the dark is one helluva choice - neon sticks and glam drinks. The new age parties include Flamingo themes and unicorn ideas.
Pick the right pool
Pick the pool according to your crowd. Smaller pools are never a great idea - make sure drinks and starters are part of the deal. A pool combined with a toddler pool is a wonderful idea. Fun-shaped pools are our favourite - Alila Diwa has a great one and so does Mariott Mumbai. Look for a pool that is secluded so the hotel guests don't get to peek into your fun. The Angsana spa near Bangalore has waterfalls with their pool area and Kumarakom Lake Resort comes with tiny assorted pools for smaller groups. Infinity pools like the one at Mariott Goa are our personal favourites too.
Don’t go overboard with decor
In most of the pool parties, people are doing random things like running around, diving, pushing someone in water and so on. In that process, décor gets stamped on or pulled down. We suggest you do fun décor like swan floats in the pool or décor a little away from the actual pool. We like floating flowers and ridiculous floats. Throw a few balloons too for some extra fun. Add bulbs covered with coloured paper to give the mood a colourful effect.
Pool Friendly Drinks
You don’t want glass shards at the bottom of the pool so we recommend pool friendly drink ware. You get these amazing acrylic ones right from champagne flutes to martini glasses. You can also use zipper bags with colourful straws for an extra dose of fun! Also colourful paper plates instead of glass ones. There are these cute acrylic mason jars too available at Lifestyle and Homestop. Freeze Your Cocktails: Combine dessert and drinks into one frozen treat with these (very adult) popsicles.
The Fun: For Pool People and Others
Nothing gets a party started like a great music! Have a DJ or create a playlist for your pool party to be an instant hit! Midnight swims are encouraged. Play a bunch of pool games aka water balloon fights. There will be a lot of guests who may be uncomfortable to venture in the pool with a host of people. Have other fun activities like a foosball table, a game of beer-pong or even board games like giant Jenga hosted for them on the side! For the guys in the pool, try out beach ball games, squirt guns and water balloon pinatas.
Easy Peasy Food
Have a relief station outside the pool and pass swimming caps, straws, swimming goggles, flip-flops, sunnies and extra towels. Have help & cleaning crew on hand: Since there is an involvement of an actual pool –things can get messy. Have a lifeguard on stand-by and a cleaning crew nearby during your party.

Pool Parties are all about relaxing and having fun. Have your food reflect that. Have light, non-greasy finger food or food that reflects your theme. Think miniature burgers, food on sticks and aloo-pops! Get a food truck to park near the property and get a customised menu up. Fill a wheelbarrow with fizzy drinks and go nuts. Extra Extras
