Don't say we didn't tell you about this earlier  . Photographing proposals with your photographer secretly filming you from a distance is definitely one of the most upcoming trends in candid photography these days and when we chanced upon this super sweet proposal shot by Vipurva Parikh , we thought we HAD to show it to our WMG junkies (Okay, we just created a name for all of you readers out there - let us know if you prefer something else) Here is how the event unfolded:

Rahul gives Sejal a decoy gift- a crappy sweater

Sejal finds a ring in the pocket of the sweater

Happy tears

Fireworks

From the photographer Vipurva Parikh: In December 2013, I had the pleasure to be a part of something very special. A surprise proposal from Rahul for his girlfriend Sejal. Rahul and I had spoken on the phone a couple of times about me shooting this for him but met him for the first time fifteen minutes before Sejal arrived. Rahul went the whole nine yards for this one. He gave her a decoy gift as a crappy sweater with a ring hidden in the pocket. After she found it, he went down on his knee and asked her to marry him. She said yes as the  sky lit up with fireworks set off by some loyal and resourceful friends of Rahul. It all ended with a very happy boy and girl, and a newly engaged  couple. I was seated discretely at a nearby table to capture the events View Vipurva's  profile on WMG: Vipurva Parikh Photography [handbook] [vendor] How to capture proposal memories:
  • While photographing proposals are still catching up in India, Internationally proposals are being captured in video format- flash mob proposals are great when caught on video
  • Here is another post we wrote about : 5 heart warming proposal stories by Indian guys
  • Make sure your photographer is comfortable with the place before hand. This one took place in a well known restaurant but if you are planning any other area, and the photog has not researched all the vantage points it may not work out as you may stray from his line of sight !
  • Make sure your photographer reaches before hand to get a good hiding place. In an open area, behind the bushes is a great idea or if you are in a crowded market he could be a simple onlooker
  • Also ensure your photographer doesn't stop at the point where the guy goes down on one knee. Some of the most beautiful shots happen with the reactions after that.
  • You may want to schedule your proposal slightly in the day time to capture more vivid images as night time shots can be tricky
  • To give an added surprise to your fiance, get your proposal photographed secretly, and dont tell her anything about it until the wedding day- send a framed photo of the proposal to her dressing room for a sure fire 'brownie point' moment !
Hope that gave you guys some inspiration on how to plan a beautiful proposal? What is that we hear - you have an arranged marriage so you dont need a proposal.  WRONG. Every girl deserves a proposal irrespective of whether you have already agreed to marry her okay. Enough said.
