When you have the beautiful blue hues of the sky and the sea right by your side, you don't really need too much décor to make your wedding venue picturesque. That's exactly why this couple chose to follow the minimalist route and they let the natural beauty of the surroundings take center stage for their dreamy wedding in Goa. With thoughtful statement pieces to complement the ambience, they kept it simple yet stunning with their wedding décor. And of course, the team of WhatKnot Photography did complete justice to their super pretty nuptial ceremonies by weaving absolute magic with some priceless photos.
Meet Twinkle & Saharsh
Ten years ago, on a rainy day in Delhi, Twinkle had stepped out of her car at Shri Ram College of Commerce. Like a typical Bollywood heartthrob, Saharsh had come to her rescue and handed out his umbrella to save her from getting drenched. Meanwhile, he had to run to his class with a book over his head, not that he was complaining. As rain had played cupid for these lovebirds, Saharsh recreated their first encounter and gave a rose to Twinkle on yet another rainy day in Delhi in 2011. That day, he promised her a beach proposal. Cut to December 2019, Saharsh stuck to his promise and asked her to marry him on the gorgeous beaches of Koh Samui in Thailand. An excited Twinkle had immediately said “Yes, yaar!!!”
Mehendi
The celebrations kickstarted with a bright and colorful Mehendi function. "I had seen some Lake Como wedding pictures and fallen in love with them. So we decided to take inspiration from that and gave it a Goan twist with Portuguese Azulejos, hues of blue and white, sprinkled with bougainvillea. Both Saharsh and I love the concept of bringing indoors to the outdoor - so everything from furniture to tablescape were chosen to give it a backyard garden feel," shares the bride.
Haldi
The Haldi involved color bombs, flower petals and a lot of laughter. Twinkle reveals, "Our theme was sunflowers - inspired from the song Sooraj Ki Bahon Mein as we wanted to go for something different from the usual genda phool decor. We don’t particularly like the smell of raw haldi, and that’s why we mixed Vicco Turmeric, Forest Essentials Ubtan and rose water so we could enjoy it to the fullest. And we definitely did!"
Wedding
Keeping up with the minimalistic vibe of the wedding, bride Twinkle chose to do her own makeup and went for a simple dewy look. Needless to say, she looked radiant. Her sartorial choice for the day was a exquisite soft-hued Manish Malhotra lehenga. Says Twinkle, "I was my own makeup artist! I saw a lot of wedding makeup YouTube videos and taught myself to do it. I wanted to redirect my makeup artist budget into my bridal lehenga budget. I always wanted to wear a very specific British rose color with crystals all over. And Manish Malhotra made it possible. They gave me the freedom to customize color, blouse design etc. to my liking - and that was really important for me."
Just like her outfit, even her wedding was straight out of a Bollywood film. She adds, "A lot of things had to fall in place to make sure we had our planned sunset pheras. All our loved ones were even more excited, and things ran exactly on time. We thought we might get emotional and end up crying during these ceremonies, but surprisingly we couldn’t stop smiling, laughing, enjoying. Our sisters tried to amp up the Bollywood in us, by asking DJ to play phera songs such as Mangalyam from Saathiya. It definitely felt like our own personal romantic movie."
From The Bride:
We were most emotional about our wedding as there were a lot of personal elements here. When Saharsh entered with the baraat, even I started dancing from my balcony. Why should boys have all the fun? And what a perfect song in the background - Aa kehde zamane se, tu mere ishq ki hai daastan, tenu leke main jawanga! I entered to the song Madhubala by Amit Trivedi, along with my parents and sister. The lyrics, acoustics, ringing bells by loved ones - it was super dreamy! Rain has been our cupid, and we found the perfect rain song in Boondon ke Moti from Wake Up Sid. With the décor, we wanted a minimalist feel here to really accentuate our love for nature. We picked soft hues of lilac, white, crystals for our mandap - to feel as if are in the middle of the ocean. After the pheras, we had a beach party, where the décor was inspired by beach shells and sand. We wanted to just chill, eat and enjoy with our loved ones. So we had our reception literally on the beach sand, sans heels and formal clothes inspired by the Shaam song from Aisha. What a perfect way to conclude our celebrations!
Vendor Reviews
Photography: WhatKnot Photography
We fell in love with WhatKnot's work on Instagram. Their candids stole our hearts. We knew we wanted pictures that captured the true essence of the moment and were not fabricated. Adi and his team (Adi and Aishwarya) were like super humans - they would run from one corner to the other to make sure that no special moment was missed. We are literally in love with our pictures!
Wedding Planning and Décor: Knotted Up
They are the best team out there in Goa. Liesel and Joel make a wonder duo. They took care of all the big things (guest management, vendors, licenses, lighting, technical aspects) and even the small things (items needed for rituals, hampers etc.). It was truly end-to-end - we are their biggest fans and cheerleaders! They were also our design vendors - and they curated new themes to go with each event. We wanted our Sangeet to feel very intimate and romantic. Our décor highlight was the starry night roof - it was covered with lights and gave a feeling of being outdoors on a starry night. With red roses all around, scented black candles, sequin linen, ball room music, wine & dine - it was perfectly done up by them. The décor for our wedding, beach party and reception were also perfectly handled by them. They all had beach-inspired elements and we loved every bit of it.
Bridal Mehendi: Mehendi Boutique Goa
Aishwarya was super accommodating because she was one of the few people in Goa, who were okay with applying Mehendi during the function and in the open. Great designs, great support, great mehendi quality.
Bridal Outfits: Wedding and Sangeet - Manish Malhotra, Mehendi - Qbik, Beach Party - Saaksha & Kinni
I didn’t want to wear an off-the-shelf designer wear. I wanted something customized and they made sure I got what I was looking for. For my Sangeet, I wanted to wear a deep red wine-colored saree. Parul from Manish Malhotra's studio was like a friend by my side - making the whole outfit experience amazing. For Mehendi, I wanted to go with something more traditional here, because my other looks were contemporary, and Qbik has great traditional fusion wear. They find a way to make bandhni and banarasi sexy. Opted for their Mohini lehenga, and it was dreamy. For the beach party, I wanted to wear an off-shoulder flowy beach dress. I saw the designs by Saaksha & Kinni, and their high- slit, boho prints had my heart. Kinni herself spent time on video calls with me to get me the perfect fit. Even though they are based in Mumbai, I got my dress in courier with the perfect fit in one go. Big recommend for wedding western casual wear.
Groom Wear: Wedding and Haldi - Qbik, Sangeet - Vaish At Rivoli, Beach Party - Dewan Saheb Gurgaon
He wanted to go with a plain yet striking achkan and Qbik gave us a great fit. We also got oxblood red safa and shawl made especially to compliment my outfit. Also loved their kurta with chikankari work that we picked for the Mehendi. For Sangeet, he wanted to opt for a a custom fit bespoke tuxedo, At Vaish At Rivoli, they had great variety of fabrics - we picked a Zegna cloth, and Vaish took 3-4 custom fittings to make sure the fit was as per international standards. For the beach party, we got a linen suit from Dewan Saheb Gurgaon for a casual look. The studio was fantastic - it was a simple process and they gave us the beachy look we wanted.
Videographers: Happy Flashbacks
Anish and Nupur - loved these guys! They ensured each and every sweet moment was captured. Eagerly waiting for our videos!
Wedding Cake: Nicolla German Bakery
She customized a dark Ferrero Rocher cake for the wedding, with a lilac fondue to go with the broader theme and décor. Loved her!
