How to Choose Your Decor Colour Keeping in Mind Your Outfits!
|
|
What is more important – décor or outfits? Both! Your décor game has to be on point with your lehenga (along with the groom’s outfit). After all, your perfectly candid photographs are going to come against this very décor. You need to ensure that all your décor setups are coordinated with your outfits. That doesn’t mean they need to be matchy-matchy; they need to complement each other. So, whether you go contrast or in the same colour fam, here are some tips and tricks to ace this décor & outfit game!
Tips and Tricks to Remember

Heavy vs. Simple
If your lehenga is heavy with embroidery try and keep the backdrop simpler. Eg: doing a busy floral wall is great if you have a light lehenga in a nice plain fabric but if you have a busy lehenga too, it looks like too much happening in photos.
Don’t Get Lost In The Décor
Try to not pick the same colours as your own outfit in the decor. Ex: If your decor is baby pink and so is your outfit then you don't want to be getting lost in the decor backdrop
Play It Up With Colours
However, if your decor is baby pink and your outfit is fuchsia pink it works perfectly as it complements your outfit but still lets it stand out
Experiment with textures and shades
If your attire features a specific colour, explore different shades and textures within that colour family for the decor. Mixing various shades can add depth and dimension to the overall aesthetic.

Colours To Avoid
Avoid picking deep colours for the stage backdrop (if you are having a stage). They can create dark photos and not highlight the couple.
Break it up
If you love white décor and cannot give up that ivory lehenga, break the palette with a pastel pink or sage green sofa. This will help break the colours and make sure you don't blend in. You have to consider the groom's outfit in this too, so don't forget that!
Pop of Colour
Picking a hint of an element like a pop of colour works well- if you have an outfit which has two prominent shades, pick the lesser prominent of the two and base the colour scheme of your decor around it.

Colour Palette
Discuss where and how to execute the colour scheme- what is the feel of the wedding you are going for? Loud and happy, or calm and peaceful? That should help you decide whether to go brighter or sober.
Time of the day
When you're having your wedding also matters- day or night. Pastel with pastel works well for a day wedding, but remember it might not have the same effect at night under the lights. So, you might have to consider something brighter for the decor.

Consider The Seasons Too
At times pastels and lighter tones might be suitable for spring and summer weddings, while deeper hues or warm tones could be ideal for fall or winter weddings. You can obviously mix it up but this can be a base idea while picking colours
Use A Colour Wheel
Too overwhelming? Simply use a colour wheel. Complementary colours (opposite each other on the wheel) can create striking combinations. Side by side colours (adjacent on the wheel) can offer a more harmonious blend.
Say Yes To Foliage With Lighter Hued Lehengas

Greens are a great idea if you are confused about florals. They also give you a solid colour base for all your outfit colours, with the exception of dark green!
Go For Textured Backdrops

Loving how this couple went with a unique textured backdrop for their saffron peachy outfits, instead of a usual floral wall.
Play With Lights

Planning to wear a heavy floral lehenga and scared that it might get overpowered by floral décor? Add lights to the mix. Especially for evening events, you can play it up.
Hanging Décor

If you are looking to wear something heavy but what a statement décor set up, consider hanging décor. Its trending and what it does is, it breaks up the space. You get the attention at the bottom half, while the décor rules the upper half!
Print On Print

We are loving this idea. Perfect for mehendi soirees where brides opt for printed lehengas and this printed backdrop is on point.
Same Colour Family, Different Shades!

Love red in your outfits and décor? You can opt for the same colour family but pick different shades to break it up slightly, like this bride did.
Oversized Décor With A Minimal Touch!

You can mix bright colours with pastel or lighter colour oversized décor elements. Also ask your decorators to strategically place it, so that they don’t overpower you.
Match With Nature

If you have an open-air venue and you plan to have your wedding with the nature as your backdrop, match with it. This blue on blue look is so dreamy!
