Picking the right gown for your reception is probably as daunting as picking the right lehenga for your wedding. There are so many options out there, and there are so many decisions to take! Which colour, what work, and of course, it all boils down to the silhouette. A gown with the same work and the same shade can look so so different in different silhouettes! Fit or flare- these are two of the most common bridal gowns we get to see brides flaunting. Not sure of what or how to choose between the two? Well, here's some help!

Fitted Gowns

Bodycon gowns, mermaid gowns, trumpet gowns, column gowns- they all come under the fitted category. They are basically gowns that are body-hugging till below the waist, or till the end.

Body types it's suitable for: Hourglass figures, to show off the curves. It also looks great on tall and athletic body types.

Pros

  • They can show off a good figure beautifully.
  • Trains look beautiful with this silhouette.
  • If you like a structured gown, a fitted one looks better.

Cons

  • Doesn't have as much 'drama' as a flared gown.
  • Since it is form-fitting, can make one conscious of their body.
  • Not as easy to dance in!

A-line, princess gowns, ball gowns- they all come under the flared category. While they are flattering, they aren't as flattering as fitted gowns, which are more body-hugging.

Body types it's suitable for: Pear shaped, plus-size, busty brides as it balances out the shape. It also looks great on petite brides as it makes them appear bigger.

Pros

  • They have a lot of drama, and look very very bridal.
  • Empire waistlines create a lengthening effect and look elegant.
  • Easier to dance in!

Cons

  • They need to be done right, else they can look tacky.
  • They could have a tendency to make tall or curvy people huge.
  • The accessorising with a ball gown needs to be right, else the whole look becomes too intimidating.
