Honeymoon needs to be a relaxed vacation. It doesn’t need the chaos and madness wedding planning has. So why go to a touristy place and fight for the last table in the waiting line of a café in Paris? Instead explore the unknown parts of Europe which are less crowded, more beautiful and since they are unexplored, more Instagrammable!

Piran, Slovenia
This is easily one of the most picturesque towns in Europe! Walk through narrow streets within the old town wall. The vibe is extremely local, so if you plan to rent an AirBnb you will get fresh produce in terms of vegetables and fish on a daily basis! You will find locals sitting by the sea, chatting and listening to sounds of the sea, greeting you with a nod.
Coimbra, Portugal
If you like mysterious locations, Coimbra is perfect for your honeymoon. As the country’s first capital for 200 years during the reigns of the earliest monarchs, Coimbra is full of cultural points and bursting with history. So take your hubby on long walks in the morning and immerse yourself in Coimbra!
Ghent, Belgium
It’s one of Belgium’s oldest cities and is a wealth of medieval and classical architecture. Don’t miss out on visiting Gravensteen, Flanders’ quintessential 12th-century stone castle comes complete with moat, turrets and arrow slits. If you are someone who likes to chill than sightsee – they have an abundance of quirky bars and good-value restaurants!
Pag Island, Croatia
While Croatia hit its tourist peak, thanks to Game Of Thrones, there are many little islands and villages yet to be explored. The island of Pag is one of the most striking and unique spots on the Croatian Adriatic coast. Known for its moon-like landscapes and salt, lace and cheese production, the heat of hot summer days is helpfully reduced by a light sea breeze. Imagine having your morning breakfast here, every single day of your honeymoon!
Mellieha, Malta
Its located on a series of hills to the north west of Malta. Its elevated maritime position, being surrounded on three sides by the blue Mediterranean sea, gives it magnificent views all around the year! If you love waking up to the view of the deep blue sea, this is the place to be. It also has Popeye Village, which was built as a film set for the production of the 1980 live-action musical feature film Popeye, produced by Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Productions starring Robin Williams. Today it is open to the public as an open-air museum and family entertainment complex
Salzkammergut region, Austria
Austria has the biggest secret ever! Hidden in the Salzkammergut region is Lake Hallstatt, one of the most beautiful Alpine lakes in Austria. It’s an outdoor adventure playground in both summer and winter and, with those stunning views, you’ll wonder why did you consider honeymooning elsewhere. You can also take the mountain railway that connects Hallstatt to a historic salt mine, while the Dachstein Ice Caves and the Mammoth Cave in Obertraun can both be reached by cable car.
The Azores, Portugal
Known as Europe’s answer to Hawaii, this place is beyond beautiful. The Azores is an archipelago composed of nine volcanic islands in the mid-Atlantic 800 miles off the coast of Portugal. Breathtaking landscapes, volcanoes, crater lakes, fishing villages, and waterfalls are waiting for you and your spouse!
Saaremaa Island, Estonia
If beer is something that you love, you will never want to leave this place. The famous local home brew and windmills are Saaremaa’s symbols. Apart from that, Saaremaa has the Kaali craters – the result of several meteorites that impacted some 3,500 years ago – the largest forming the unique, green-coloured Kaali Lake. Looks absolutely surreal!
Volos & Pelion region, Greece
Remember those beautiful beaches in the movie Mamma Mia? That is Volos and Pelion for you. The movie was filmed in Damouhari, the only natural harbour on the East Pelion coast. Volos is halfway between Athens and Thessaloniki in the Pagasetic Gulf. It has rich historical and architectural sites, good restaurants and a vibrant nightlife, and is bordered by beautiful beaches on one side, and by Mount Pelion on the other. What more do you need from Greece?
Portofino, Italy
This lovely sea village on the Italian Riviera is surrounded by the lush greens of the Natural Regional Park and Marine Reserve. The “Piazzetta,” meeting-up point for the international jet-set, is the symbol of Portofino, while the port, with its characteristic, brightly-coloured houses (Yayy Instagram!), is the icon of this borgo’s maritime traditions, whose inhabitants were called delfini (“dolphins”) by the Greeks and Romans, so apt were they at sea navigation! How romantic would it be to honeymoon here?
